Recently, I thought about going to bartending school for the sake of being a hobbyist. It's close to 800-dollars or so. I wouldn't likely use it for job advancement as that is not my goal.

Is this a lavish waste of time and money? Most people have sad that bartending school is a waste of time and money if you're looking for a career. I just want to learn is all, so I'm not motivated by financial gain or finding a career.

Also, has anyone attended bartending school or attended a hobbyist type school for cooking or food preparation?

It's a waste of time if you don't need it for a job because you can learn how to make cocktails at your own pace at home.

I'd be wary of a place called Jungle Jim's. I enrolled in a cooking class over craiglist last summer and on the very first night, the instructor (we'll call him "Jim") asked me to meet him at an elementary school playground. It was around 3 AM, but I thought he was just being unconventional. When I got there, it was pitch black and no one was around. There was however a small fire pit constructed in the mulch that still had some glowing embers on it. I was hanging around the monkey bars waiting for this guy, when I slipped and knocked myself unconscious. I was awoken by the school security in the morning, asking me why I was pants-less on their playground. It was true, someone had taken my pants, wallet and car keys while I was KO'd. Luckily my car was still there and there weren't serious repercussions, I was cited for disorderly conduct, had to cancel my credit car and bank card, do some swapping with my T.MOBIL account (and purchase a replacement phone) AND replace my electronic car key. That thing was 600 USD. Crazy! Just be wary of Jungle "Jim".
