Barrel Aged BORIS is fantastic, as is pretty much anything else Hoppin' Frog does, similarly with Founders.

KBS is a spectacularly delicious beer, much more balanced and coffee forward than something like Goose Island's Bourbon County Stout.

Spend the money on that BORIS, Hoppin' Frog self-distributes, and I love supporting breweries that make great beer and aren't pretentious about it.

While I'm on the topic of Midwestern breweries, I would like to add Dark Horse to the list of breweries I love to support.

Lagunitas guys are bro tier chaps. I got to visit their brewery in Petaluma last weekend. Really fun loving guys and made friends with one of the PR guys who works there, Don, I think his name was. He hooked me up with some aged Hairy Eyballs and Gnarlywine they had sitting in the back of the brewhouse when he heard I age beers. Been hooking him up with homemade jerky ever since. Really nice guys there, and pretty darn good beer too. Love their Pils.

Thinking about getting one of these.
The one I'm looking at fits 3 kegs, has 3 taps for $1500.
Any drinkers got opinions on keg fridges in general?

Tonight I'm drinking coopers sparkling ale...

I wouldn't buy one personally. Only because it'd be hard to not drink all the time. If you don't have that issue, and have the money, do it. That'd be cool to have

My thoughts exactly, I probably drink more than I should but most of it is on weekends, money is not an issue and because I home brew I'm really over washing out bottles...

I live in BC and got to try my first Lagunitas beer, their WTF (IBA?) and have to say it's one of the best IPA/IPA variants I've ever had. The roasted malts make it extremely drinkable and the hop body is overall well balanced.

As for what I'm drinking tonight, I've got a couple bottles of my recently brewed Dry Stout left that I'm going to finish off before my traditional Hefeweizen is ready.

I realize that but I don't want a big old fridge taking up space, I even have an old fridge I could use for this purpose but I want this neat little thing. The parts are all quality and will most likely last a life time apart from hoses that will need replacing occasionally.
Also the fact it's ready to go is a plus for me. I'm really unorganized person.
Also money ain't no thang..

Not who you replied to but I have a good job and I can afford nice things but if I'm just drinking to get pissed I drink cheap cask wine or swill beer.

Just seems wasteful to me drinking something memorable that you won't remember, when you are in that state taste is not as important as something that is easy to drink lots of.

Also, I like single malt scotch but I find it a bit to sickly if I drink more than one or two shots in a night, I also drink it really slowly so I have no chance of it getting me drunk anyway.

its a waste of money, as i said you can buy all the parts, a new thermostat for a chest freezer and convert it into a fridge, for a fraction of the price

your money, if your an idiot who wants to waste it, go right ahead, kid

also if you dont homebrew, then its an extreme waste of money

Nah, I think macros lead to a slippery slope though. Their bland flavor makes you just pound them down way too fast.

I can enjoy macros in the same way I can drink micros. I think some people are just a little too pretentious. If you think Coors is good then more power to you.

Most of the beers from Sam Adams i've liked.

>> No.4410814

As a Dutchfag I'm not familiar with those. It's a shame really since I've heard Amerrica has good beer because of the whole microbrew scene, but it rarely makes it across the pond. I like darker beers as well, from Trappist ales to Irish stouts, but pilsner is the default here. I can't imagine disliking it. It's simple and refreshing, like water.

>> No.4410825

>>4410814

American microbrewers are unwilling or unable to put much effort into pilsners and lagers. There are a few that alright but let's think about the target market. The kinds of struggling folks who get angry when they don't get "muh money's worth" at a restaurant aren't going to willingly pay the same for a 5% ABV pilsner, regardless of how good it is, if they could have a 9% monstrosity of the week with a picture of a demon dog on the label designed by a famous southern california tattoo artist. So the market is dominated by flamboyant beers designed to compete for your weary eyes as you trudge home from your soul-crushing, dead-end job in the service industry. Which is pretty much the only place most Americans can get a job these days.

So, pilsner and lager is associated with low quality macros, and gets shat on by "real beer drinkers".

You guys don't know how good you have it.

>> No.4410837

My sentiments about it are why pay the extra price for a simple beer? theres no complexity to it, nothing head and shoulders above the macro pilsners.

I really wish more American micros were brewing more stuff like a kolsch or a good pilsner with noble hops. I find myself appreciating a good pale rather than an IMPERIAL DOUBLE IPA more and more. Belgian styles and aged beers are cool, but I hope American craft brewers calm down a little.

Not sure if you've drank that yet, but I'd suggest tossing it in the bin.

I tried it a weekend or two ago and it was by far the most foul thing I've ever tasted, and stouts are usually my go-to choice for beers.

I mean, maybe I just got a bad bottle, but I swear to God that it both tasted and smelled an awful lot like blood.
