yes it takes a lot of devotion. its not "hard" really, it just takes a long time.
school is another one of those things that is debatable.
personally i think its silly because it costs 60k+ to get into an industry that will only make you half of that.

It's not stupid impossible or anything, but if you actually go to school for it, you're going to cover a little bit of everything - not just foods, but cost control, legal issues, menu planning, etc. At least I did.

Mine only cost me about $5000. But that was because it was at a college, and not CIA.

Thanks for the reply.. well here it cost like 200$ paying for the Subscription and the payment of the firts month wich includes all the equipment for a chef (uniform, books, etc) And after that im gonna pay like 100 or 150$ per month..

if you were going to go to school, thats the way to do it in my opinion. taking classes while working in a nice restaurant, even as just a prep cook, is much more beneficial because it keeps you grounded.
food is about bringing people together over a nice meal, and when you go to something like CIA it puts you in this whole other world. i guess you could call them "food snobs" for lack of a better term, and it takes all the love and fun out of it.

Indeed. And some of the people that come out of the CIA (they have a campus about fifteen minutes away from the college I attended) have this horrible attitude, but don't know shit. It's like they didn't pay attention AT ALL, but "I went to the CIA, so I'm better". Meanwhile, they get fired, while we move up (or at least keep our jobs.)
