is Marinara sauce and Pizza sauce the same thing, or are there any differences to them?

One is used for pizza, the other for things other than pasta.

Pizza sauce is generally too fat to be used on other things. At least mine is. It's also chunky, marinara is usually smooth.

I guess marinara can be used as pizza sauce, but pizza sauce that isn't marinara can't really be used in place of marinara.

i cook the shit out of marinara, with lots of paste, and make it dark and i also use meat in my marinara, Pork necks if available, or just stock. My pizza sauce is alot more "fresh" where i use a light tomato sauce, minimal paste, fresh tomatoes, fresh herbs, and good olive oil.

In America. Wikipedia says that in Southern Italy they use marinara sauce on pizza, pasta and rice.

I've never seen any in mine, or tasted any. Garlic, sometimes; herbs, usually oregano. In marinara sauce, the one you usually find in North America, there is indeed onion in it, and more herbs.

Fun to know, though. But the fact remains that you can use any sauce on pizza. There's no "pizza sauce". What's commonly found on pizzas in North America is ground tomatoes, water, oil, sometimes garlic, salt, and oregano.

I'm now imaging pizza sauces. I think I'd like to try caramelized onion next time, sun-dried tomatoes, tomatoes, tomato paste, and red wine. Black pepper.

If I wasn't vegan, I guess I'd top it with some genoa salami, gruyere, feta, and parmesan.

i just use crushed/blended tomatoes for pizza sauce, maybe reduced a bit if it's watery. if i want more flavors, i add them as toppings.

Main difference, personally, as I use it, is that my pizza sauce is smoother, while I like my marinara to be more chunky. But they use much of the same flavors, and can be used pretty much interchangeably.
