Drinking Collingwood a blended Canadian whiskey that's finished by aging in toasted maple barrels. I generally don't like Canadian whiskey but it was cheap and I never heard of it. Also wanted to see if it tasted strongly of maple.

It's better than some other stuff I've had. Not bad, kinda spicy, strong maple aroma. I'm not disappointed But I don't think I'll buy it again, but only because I prefer bourbon and single malt scotch.

Collingwood the town has an incredible hungarian restaurant... "The Iron Skillet" I believe it's called. The goulash is divine, I had it almost 15 years ago and can still remember it. Served in a warm, crusty bread bowl... oh gosh

Spring the extra few bucks and get this one. nice, rich, brandy-y without tasting too much like caramel. Alternately, look for a non-congac French brandy, these can be had for about the same price. Well (imo) a great place to start is Bombay Sapphire, I find it to be a really good, versatile gin. Goes great in anything id say. Easy to pick up, not too expensive (£20 a bottle)

Another very popular one is Hendricks. Its really heavy on the cucumber though. Plenty of people really do rave about it, im kind of indifferent, if its the only thing on offer then ill take it.

I prefer to stick to the classic cocktails, G and T, Tom Collins or Martini. I dont enjoy modern cocktails full of fruit puree and sickly sweet fruit syrup, because that kills the gin.

Gin really isnt too expensive though. The one i posted cost me £25, and i think its one the best gins available. You can normally afford to experiment a little with gin when you arent having to dish out £40+ like you are with whisky.

Sapphire is really heavy on the juniper, and while I think it's an alright gin, if there's someone who is put off by juniper heavy gins (and many people are), it's not going to change their mind. That's one reason why Hendrick's is so popular, it's one of the easiest to find gins where the dominant aromatic is something other than juniper.
