i really don't understand why people get so worked up over horse meat. cow meat is ok but it's evil to eat horse? double standards.

One's really got to wonder where the fuck they stashed all those horses.

It's not that. It's the fact it was labelled as beef. You have no idea where that shit came from.

This. If I'm buying beef, I want it to be beef, not something else mixed in just to make production cheaper.

It was Taco Bell itself who discovered that the meat was contaminated with horse- they run tests on their own product.

Not only that, but theres a hormone used in commercially growing horses (i cant recall the name) that has been restricted from use in the animals we eat because its been shown to have detrimental effects in humans.
It really is a health risk, not just some namby pamby ethical problem.

by providing a healthier low cost alternative to beef?
and then having the liberal media try to stop them from doing it.
I bet you think MSG is bad too

it is an antibiotic that is used on horses not a hormone.

It would be like going to the grocery store and buying fruit from a stand labeled "bananas" when they were, in fact, plantains. If I buy a beef taco, I want a BEEF taco. I'm not against eating horse meat, but false advertisement should not be permitted.

It is neither an antibiotic or a hormone.

The chemical is phenylbutazone, or "bute" in slang. It is a painkiller. Think of it like "Tylenol for animals".

Also, it is not necissarily dangerous to humans. However, SOME humans (About 1 in 20,000) have an allergic reaction to it. So, if someone ate a HUGE amount of horsemeat AND if that horsemeat came from a horse which had recently been treated with phenylbutazone, AND if that person just so happened to be one of the 20,000 who are sensitive to that drug, then they might get sick. This has never happened in human history but phenylbutazone has been banned for use in animals raised for meat out of an abundance of caution.

So if the government goes back on something they promised pre-election, how come they don't get hounded out with a full investigation into why they haven't delivered? This is thing is blown way out of proportion. And you just absolutely know that people will SAY "this is an outrage, how could they ever let this happen?", and then if they're asked if they want to ensure meat is sourced from local/homegrown animals, at a price increase of say 60p per pack or whatever, people will be up in arms saying "how can we afford that in this recession?!".

And now I want a horse burger with horse radish on it.
Thanks Taco Bell.

>> No.4280463

This.

This is the only thing that the companies are actually concerned about. There is not a negative health aspect from eating horses; retards just think there is. The whole quarrel about this horse meat scandal is simply the fact that it isn't what is advertised

Wait.

Taco bell actually uses meat!?

>> No.4281537

Isn't taco bell "beef" only like thirty-something percent actual meat anyway?

>> No.4281542

>>4281537
Fucking stop that. It's 92 percent beef alone. The other 8 percent is seasonings, coloration, and preservatives.

Some dumbass lied about it and promptly got sued by Taco Bell who willingly dished out their recipe.
