Hey there /ck/! I know this is might be more /fit/ related, but since it's also food related, I'd rather come here.

How many calories a day should your body consume for an inactive person? I'm a 20 year old male that rarely exercises, unless you count walking as exercise. I eat at least 1000 calories a day, but hardly ever hit 2000 calories in a day. Is this unhealthy or is this normal? My mom said I should start eating at least 2000 a day for someone my age. I just counted up my calories for today and it came to like 1200ish. Is this alright or should I be eating more, regardless of my amount of activity?

You should be exercising.

Also nutrition isn't just calories.

The question is unanswerable, because in your condition and based on calories alone, we cannot tell you what is a healthy amount.

Oh and I eat fairly healthy. About 2/3 of my diet is fruit and veggies.

Listen to Mom!
And go to /fit

Google 'calories per day.' You'll find a calculator asking your age and weight. They'll tell you how much you need to consume in a 24 hour period. Then google 'calories burned per day.' You'll find a fitness calculator where you list the things you've done over the past 24 hours - sleep, sit, read, shower, etc. That will tell you how many calories you burn. Then figure out how to consume less than you burn and you're on your way to losing weight.

i'm supposed to get 2200 a day i think. i rarely get above 1500. sucks cause i'm not trying to lose weight, i just don't get hungry.

Eat more until you start gaining weight. Now you know.

Yeah you're right, I really should be. I just put it off till late and it never gets done.

My diet normally includes some fruit in the morning and some skim-milked coffee from Starbucks (this is my biggest weakness in my diet). Then I'll either come home and make a pbj sandwhich or stir-fry meal for lunch (depending on how much time I have), and have some fruit and veggies with chicken for dinner. Every few days I'll take an hour long walk, but that's not really anything.

I never really feel that hungry, but I was concerned for my health in terms of my diet especially since I'm not exercising.

>>4224183
Yeah same here. I don't ever really get hungry, but I eat whenever my stomach starts growling.

>>4224176
Haha yeah mom is always right! I just wanted to hear what the food experts on here had to say too. I like /fit/ but sometimes the people on there can be pain in the butt to deal with. You guys are more helpful and friendly!

You should eat enough to do whatever it is you need/want to do without getting fat.

If you want an actual figure I'd have to hook you up to a bunch of machines for a week.

Do real physical activity (not just walking) and eat 2500+. How tall are you and how much do you weigh? You've got to be like a 5'2" jew.

I'm 5'10" and 155ibs last time I checked.

Thank you guys for the advice! I'm sorry if this thread wasn't appropriate for /ck/ again. I'll be more weary of this next time and go to /fit/ or /adv/ or something.

You're fine. Stop worrying.

You definitely should be eating around 2000 calories a day. If you're not, you're probably weak.
