I hope that is outside, and plenty of breeze

Fucking delicious. Smells like ass, but so does good cheese. Tastes like overripe mangos and pineapples with some kind of mild cheese. I have no idea why Andrew Zimmerman can't handle this.

God I can smell it just by looking at it

Durian, Its creamy and sweet. Durian smoothies are godly. It does have an distinct aroma but I think its funny how people its unbearable.

>> No.4200103

all duriantrolling aside, it can't be _that_ bad can it /ck/. always planned to grab some sometime since I've seen packages of sealed durian in the cold aisle of the asian market here but it's kinda expensive so I keep putting it off

I had one of those once. Tasted like everything one would have in an American-style breakfast (ham, eggs, maple syrup from some pancakes), mixed with fruity undertones, vanilla custard and with a distinct after-scent of gas-range fuel. It was delightful, and surreal.

It smells like rotten foot and tastes like the hot stench ass. I suggest you try a small package

it smells horrible, really, it does
worse than stinky cheeses
think of raw chicken left in a container outside in springtime for a day
the taste is pretty nice, but nothing to write home about, really sweet, mild, very slight floral/citrus tone

It certainly isn't for the faint of heart. There's a reason eating it in public in the Philippines can get you fined.

It's like creamy custard, you niggers.

they say the smell belies the wonderful taste but it just didn't work out for me. i bought some durian fruit bars and they tasted just like the smell had been transposed to the tongue. and the stench lingers for hours on the breath

The taste is, not the smell of the actual fruit.

Yeah, no. Get the fruit, not artificial "durian" flavouring or the strange brown durian sticks. They do taste and smell pretty fucked.

>>4200258
It's not too bad. ;_;

>> No.4200276

its not even that bad, how can people be such babies. do yourself a favor, try it.

>Yeah, no. Get the fruit, not artificial "durian" flavouring or the strange brown durian sticks. They do taste and smell pretty fucked.
they weren't artificially flavored. there weren't any ingredients other than durian, milk, sugar. i don't know what brown sticks you're talking about, these were pale yellow frozen things

Frozen durian? That's new to me.

frozen durian popsicle things. they also have whole/cut durians in the freezer, i suppose it's the only way to contain the odor.

I fucking love durian. I think the ones I keep getting are really aired out or something because I just don't recall the nasty smell. Or maybe I don't mind it. It's been a while since I last ate durian, would be nice to have one.

>> No.4200593

I can eat the smelliest cheese but NOT that, looks like something only old people would eat

>> No.4200601

Durian are heavy, spiky, and apparently pretty tough.

Has anyone ever been murdered with a frozen durian on a stick?

>> No.4200604

>>4200489
Do you get them frozen? Those are usually underripe durians picked from the tree from Thailand.

A durian is ripe when it falls off the tree on its own. Visit Malaysia or Singapore around August/September, durians everywhere.

>> No.4200625

>>4200601
Not sure but my uncle once threw a part of a durian at my mum's head when they were young. It broke the skin and she bled everywhere. She never forgot that day.

>> No.4200739

i've had durian since i was like 8 (vietnamese family)

i like to believe that somehow when you're born you're either a person who is okay/likes the smell of durian, or one who absolutely, absolutely hates it. i personally can't think of how it'd be an offending smell, it smells fine, not cheesy at all. it's pretty good!

>> No.4200756

It has to be genetic, like cilantro. I had a roommate who said they smelled and tasted flowery and sweet, but all I could smell and taste was sulfur, rot, and shit. It is one of the two things in this world I have no desire to ever eat again. During and cilantro.

>> No.4200757

>>4200756
>During

Holy fuck. Durian. Derp.

>> No.4200762

I never understood the problem with the smell.
It's almost floral and sweet.
The taste is creamy, custardy, sweet.
Dat texture is the best though.

I prefer Dragon fruit and Custard Apple though when it comes to exotic fruits.

>>4200604
They aren't frozen when I get them, then again I don't get it that fresh off the tree since I live in Canada.

>>4200739
Are you me?

It's funny, my parents and I are fine with durian, but my two younger siblings get sick of the "bad smell", which I haven't notice.

>> No.4200832

It's mostly whether you grew up eating it or not. It's full of sugar, and a lot of vitamins.

The smell isn't as bad as you make it out to be. As for the flavor, the best, highest quality durians have a bittersweet quality (not really bitter, but just a hint of bitterness to offset the sweet)

>> No.4200887

The smell and taste of outhouse. MMMMMM

A couple of friends and I bought one a while back and it wasn't that bad. None of us ever had it before and everyone was kind of disappointed in how inoffensive it was. Tasted light and sweet with a creamy texture and a weird gasoline flavor. The smell wasn't that terrible but it somehow got into every room in the house and stayed there for days. My parents were a lot more sensitive to it than any of my friends though, and most of the people who seem to despise the smell are older, so I wonder if that has something to do with it.
