hai /ck/
I need your advice on chefs knife. I have had a Fiskars one like in the pic but it got misplaced. I am now looking for a new one and I would like to know what to look for. I don't need brands, I need characteristics.

>> No.4186769

Why not get a new Fiskars knife. They are high quality and you are already used to one.

>> No.4186771

8-10 inches is best.
the cut/blade stlye (European/Japanese/Mix) is based on what you use it for most. Mix or European style are best for multi-purpose use.

Not OP, but how does /ck/ feel about wusthof? Shun?

well if you don't need brands and you need characteristics, you've failed to tell us what characteristics you liked and didn't like from your Fiskar.
Characteristics are subjective, so we cant advise you if we have no idea what you prefer...

Wusthof is pricey, but among the best.

>> No.4187597

Get whatever you feel comfortable with, Japanese and Germanese make the best. Tho even a cheap sharp knife is your best friend.

fiskars makes chefs knives? I though they only lived in the hardware stores

>> No.4187620

Second question, how does /ck/ feel about Global knives?

>> No.4187625

how does one misplace a chefs knife? sounds like a setup for a tragic story about trying to get to the bathroom in the dark on night and cutting your foot open on a misplaced blade.

>Wusthof
>among the best
lol sure.

>> No.4187674

Good quality steel. The blade and tang should be one piece. Tang should extend the full length of the handle. The handle should be riveted on solidly.

>wusthof?

Garbage, no celebrity chefs are even endorsing them these days. Have you even memorized every thread on knife forums?

>Shun?

You've got to be kidding me. They use VG-10 which is obsolete trash, basically even worse than SAE410.

Basically, unless you are commissioning a knife hand forged from 4096 layers of eutectoid D2 and CPM154 cladding on a pure homogenous martensitic yasugi hagane core, made by either Murray Carter (17th generation Yoshimoto Bladesmith) or Ryouichi Mizuochi, and NO ONE ELSE, you're doing it wrong.

Also, for that matter I doubt Global even makes kiritsuke style knives these days, it's 2013 get with the program faggot casuals. Global is basically peddling obsolete garbage, I'm surprised they're still in business with such an obvious scam.

Okay. So what knife would you suggest? Let's assume that unlike you (apparently) I do not have a time machine.

Wusthof, Victorinox, Shun, MAC, whatever... I have a Wusthof Santoku, and I think it's good, but I cannot know if you would like it or not. Knives are just tools, and like with any tool, everyone needs to find their own favorite. At the end of the day, the brand or one specific knife wont make you a better chef/cook. Of course a good knife will make your life easier in kitchen, but we can't say which knife would be the best one for you.
Just go to somewhere where you can try how they fit in your hand and pick one. Practice a lot with it and if you like the knife type, start researching if there are reviews or articles about other brands that make the same type and then try those.
(But forget the Fiskars, tbh, just don't consider those)

Got I fucking hate faggots like you. 10/10, I mad, you even made me reply to a fucking knife thread.

Life is the pursuit of perfection, not the ascertaining of it; even if you can achieve perfection, the second you do it will no longer be perfect because you will have already attained it. It is in the pursuit, in TRYING to do better, that people do great things, they aren't just automatically great. If you invalidate everything that is not perfect or ideal then you invalidate life.

Grow the fuck up.
