I notice the liquor threads I've been reading on here seem to have a lot of focus on bourbon. I'm a 22 year old male and I have never consumed any bourbon in my life.
Is it really that good? Is there any <$20 bourbon that I could try to get a good idea of what to expect from bourbon?

>> No.4153483

speyburry is a cheapish good scotch but honestly op there are probably alot of people around here that think its badass to be into bourbon/scotch so they pretend they are aficionados on 4chan.

get into beer first its better anyway

I agree with that. But I will admit my curiosity has been piqued so I will give this another bump for a suggestion on a good starter bourbon.
I'm guessing Evan Williams isn't great because it seemed to be pretty cheap.

ive always did jim beam, get something cheap but not swill. williams and beam or maybe gentleman jack are all good starters.

For 20 dollars I would get

#1: Old Grand Dad 100 BOB
#2: W.L. Weller Special Reserve
#3: Jim Beam Black
#4: Wild Turkey 101

Honorary Tennessee Whiskey Mention: George Dickel No. 12

yeah, i don't get the elitism about it either. i like bourbon, i have a preference for brown liquors. vodka is tolerable if i want to get drunk, i don't really like beer. some wine is okay, but only with meals, really. or during a 'i'm poor and want to get drunk' episodes. fuck gin, it's disgusting. i tasted tequila for the first time the other week, seemed 'sweeter' than i imagined it would be. rekordelig cider is nice, but people say cider is for faggots (which is only a little bit true).

spend the 22 bucks or so and get Makers Mark. a nice, well rounded bourbon

Mellow and smooth, but a little lacking in character for sipping.

Makes a great old fashioned though.

Woah. Let's not say anything we might regret. What don't you like about gin?

Much like spinach, tomatos and tripe; all established comestibles have not a digressiion with you but for your own lack of understanding. No established food stuff tastes "bad," you have simply not managed to ascertain the manner in which to enjoy it and or you must build the ability to enjoy it.

I have yet to apreciate limburger cheese, but I must admit it as a failure o my part, not that cheese.

This also applies to liquor. Whether or not you wis hto invest time and effort into growing the ability to enjoy it is your decision, but doubtless with an open heart and mouth you can find a world of pleasure in it to enrich your life.

Of course, some will exceed others in terms of pleasure upon the pallete you have chosen to live with.

Seriously, some ADULTS don't like tomatoes.

These are good suggestions. Wild Turkey 101 is probably one of my favorites.

If you can bump yourself up to the $25-30 range, you can try some really fantastic stuff like:

Elijah Craig 12
Evan Williams Single Barrel
Eagle Rare 12
Elmer T. Lee

All of those are fantastic bourbons.
