I recently moved from California to Denver, CO.

So to those who are in CO; What groceries are cheapest that YOU would recommend? I find that King Soopers is not cheap; In California, I had Winco, which was the cheapest grocery there.

I visited Sprouts and it seemed that some of their produce (fruits and veggies) are ok priced. Not too cheap, either.

H-Mart/oriental market had the cheapest produce sometimes, but they're a bit of a drive.

Ideally, I'd like to stop spending ~50 bucks a week on groceries.

Thanks in advance

Holy crap 50 bucks a week, what are you eating?
Hispanic grocery shops are pretty cheap.

well i should take off the "on groceries" part, I spent over $50 this week on groceries AND house necessities.

Maybe I spend close to~$30-35?

I'll check out the mexican markets; I was tempted to go into one but was unsure.

>>4147946
Yeah do that, also you can try googling their website to see if they have a weekly special and coupons like: http://www.kvmart.com/specials/topvalu
I save a lot from waiting and only buying things that are on sale.

>> No.4147992

That's really a lot for you? I eat about $7/day off-sales. Catching special offers when I can but also treating myself now and again, it evens out to about $2500/yr. Surely you can manage that.

Thanks for the tip! I used to coupon alot in California (would get like $15 worth of shit for $5) but I don't have a printer here in Colorado. I'll keep a look out for grocery flyers/ads.

>>4147992
Well, it's not really a lot for me, but it's just something I want to budget. First time I moved out of parent's place, and it's out of state, too. I'm not employed yet (waiting to hear back from a place in ~1 week) and I'll have to pay rent, which is $300+utilities-- My best friend is paying the other half, too.

Since he's paid for the first month of rent and deposit, I've been feeding us. I just think gas is the problem since it's been a money drain-- I drive all over the place to target, king soopers, safeway, etc... I just want one place to shop at for groceries.

>> No.4148015

OP, I live in Colorado Springs, we have more or less the same grocery situation. As has been mentioned, check the Mexican/Indian/Asian markets near you, the deals there will be much better than you find at King Soopers, Albertsons, or Safeway. The big grocery chains tend to be good for meat and dairy, but vegetables are best purchased at the smaller markets. Sprouts is a pretty good grocery store, most of what they sell is pricey, but their sale prices are amazing.

Also, use this page, they compile the weekly ads from all the major groceries in Colorado:

Wouldn't freshwater fish be easy to obtain in Colorado, particularly trout? I don't see why you couldn't do fish and chips with trout.

Where I'm from, we also do fish and chips but aren't as particular as to the species of fish.
Because I grew up on the sea proper, oceanfish were the most common (lampuga is my favourite) but if it happened that we went into the mountains or elsewhere further inland, locals there would cook fish and chips from local freshwater fishes. Why can't you?

Go fishing with salmon eggs? Yes. Find a good spot on the Poudre and pull them in all day. Rainbow trout is a glorious fried fish.

It is. You missed the point.

Then there you go. OP should go fishing for trout or, alternately, find a fish farm in CO somewhere and buy trout.

Also, what about Asian groceries? Asian groceries where I currently live carry live fish that they remove from the tank by net and beat to death with a heavy wooden rolling pin. Then they defin, descale, gut, clean and hand it to the customer. Takes all of 10 minutes or so at most.

Asian are pieces of shit. Worked for FOBs for years. Friends with Viets and Koreans. They're a joke. They come to live in another country and refuse to assimilate.

Smelly and greedy.
Will not support them. (unless it's for my dry cleaning)

Jesus christ what the hell happened here?

Anyway, I checked out some local place from lolyelp and they had really good, fresh, cheap produce. I even bought some bread for 50cents, blackberries for 99cents, etc.

Still gotta look for a place to get meat; I think I'll stick to king soopers for meat.
