My oldest brother owns three Mexican butchershops. We sell taco meat to ~40 taquerias, some chain restaurants, and a few other restaurants. Current price for our taco meat is $0.88/lb unseasoned and $1.08/lb seasoned (Mojo criollo marinade, Chef Merito's Fajitas seasonings, and onions). The taco meat is made from the oldest and cheapest cuts of beef we have. If you were to see it, since we don't use any red dyes, you would be disgusted. We have two suppliers for beef, our display case/grilling beef is from Texas (higher quality than Publix for example) and our cheaper cuts is from Colorado (shittier than school cafeterias) and there is a big gap in pricing and quality.

If you're going to eat at a taqueria, do yourself a favor and don't order any beef taco meat. You don't even want to know about the chicken we sell them, trust me.

I'm not bullshitting, so pic attached is a snapshot of the meat display cases I took with my phone right now.

Forgot to mention we have three sizes we sell to the taquerias: cheap ass size, medium size, and chunky size.

Just go with fajitas dressed as tacos on corn tortillas if you're looking for "quality".
