I have had to use electric stoves for a while, and they really do suck ass for cooking compared to gas.

Just trying to juggle pans so that you can remove them from heat (because electric burners stay hot for a good while) is hard enough, especially when the stove is small and only one burner spot is big enough for your 14" cast-iron pan or your huge-ass stock pot. You eventually have to clear your work area and put down a trivet, if you have enough things you want to make.

Also, you can't really use a round-bottomed wok ever.

The one advantage I guess is that I can clean my stove in less than a minute...which I guess I underestimate somewhat.

You're limited by not having the massive BTU of those wok burners, but you can still make acceptable stir fry. I do it all the time.

It's like how people make acceptable naan without a tandoor, or acceptable pizza without a wood-fired brick oven. It's not the same, but it works fine and the alternative is just too expensive and difficult to keep.

Gas is great, but if we're just talking BTU's, well, why the fuck are we even having this conversation? You don't have a commercial gas range in your home. If you DO, it's a mediocre "home" unit.

My parents' summer house is in southern Italy on the adriatic. Gas is indeed delivered in pic related. There is a cabinet next to the stove that you put it in and connect it to the stove. Then, you turn on both valves then turn on the stove.
There's no need for gas in around there because the area is generally warm year-round. The coldest it gets in the winter in that area is about 10°C (50°F). The houses are quite old and many haven't been retrofitted for indoor gas lines, so this is the next best thing. Yes: there is electricity.

As I understand it, the Amish do the same.

Because there's no point. You might as well use a western style flat frying pan or a skillet. A flat-bottom wok is silly. It's only purpose is marketing--it makes people think they're cooking authentic Asian food because their pan has a special shape. However in reality, it's silly. The whole point of cooking on a wok is the blisteringly high heat. That requires either gas or a charcoal stove. If you don't have either of those then you're missing the whole point. A flat bottom wok is like an easy-tear condom, padded combat knife, or a "light duty" tow truck. It's just silly.

If you have a gas range (or charcoal stove) then by all means get a wok. If you don't have that kind of heat output you cannot use a wok properly. Just use a very thick western pan or skillet in its place.

I'm cheap. I turn off the heat at 10pm nightly and turn it back on at 8am daily. I turn it off whenever I leave the house, so it's only on, at most, for about 6hours each day. The electricity bills in the summer are around $120USD and the gas bills in the winter around $170USD. Last year, the gas bill was around $140 and the electric $110. The year before, the gas was around $90 and the electric $100.
Gas prices have been sky-rocketing in the US lately. I can't say how much pic related costs as I've never bought them (I forgot to post the pic to >>4120064, so here it is), but as long as I've been living in the US, the gas has generally been a little higher than the electric with 2010 being a fluke.
Also, I only use the AC in the summer at night; I like to be cold at night as it helps me sleep.

No, you're missing the point.

The flat cast iron bottom on an electric stove builds and hold the heat. The bottom of the inside of the wok is still curved. It sits "within" the flat cast iron base. Like a conventional wok ring would hold a round bottom wok. Works exactly the same. and trust me, it gets PLENTY hot.

Also, you can use it on your grill (charcoal master race, btw).

The only disadvantage is that you can't tilt the wok, it sits flat on the stovetop.

Forget anecdotal stories. Compare the cost of electricity and gas per unit energy.

According to:
http://www.eia.gov/electricity/monthly/
....the average cost of electricity in the USA is $0.12 per KWH. 1 KWH = 3400 BTU, so the cost is $0.000035 per BTU.

and according to:
http://www.eia.gov/dnav/ng/ng_pri_sum_dcu_nus_m.htm
....the average cost of natural gas at retail price is about $12 for 1000 cubic ft. There is about 1028 BTU in 1 cubic foot of gas so gas costs about 0.000012 per BTU.

Notice the cost per unit energy (BTU) for electricity is roughly 3 times higher than gas.

So, on average, gas is MUCH less expensive than electricity--in fact, it's 1/3 the price--though if you happened to live somewhere where the prices are very different than average then perhaps YMMV.

Mayhaps. It could also be that my place is poorly insulated. I suspect as much, to be honest. The place has unit cooling but central heating. In the summer, I cool only my bedroom and nothing more.
Back to the subject at hand, though: I've worked in the past as a personal cook. Everyone I worked for had gas ranges except one family that had electric because the wife was afraid of having open flame in her home.
I had little problem with switching to her electric cook top, but I most certainly prefer gas.
