I like recipes with pictures. For example, the first time I made a roux I didn't know really what colour it was supposed to be when it was done.

I Agree. Half the time I never look at measurements. I just judge how much I need by the picture. I feel a lot more free to play around and experiment, where as a traditional recipe feels so constraining, and you just hope it turns out right in the end.

i like to put an asian twist on my lasagna. here's how it goes:

1. substitute pasta sauce for oyster sauce
2. substitute meat (sausage, hamburg, whatev) for egg foo, or oysters. pork is also acceptable
3. sub pasta for noodles. make them overlap, to cover the filling. lo mein works best, i find
4. sub cheese for fried rice

i know it sounds unfallible, but it's very good. really a recipe to bring down the house.

Jesus fucking christ. I know I'm dredging up this thread but this image is so stupid. Why in the fuck would you marinate such a fickle, lean cut of chicken overnight in an acidic sauce!!! The proteins will get fucked up and your chicken will be dry, stringy, and nasty. You're supposed to marinate chicken breasts for like 1 - 2 hrs tops. If you insist on marinating chicken overnight use a sturdier cut like thighs, drumsticks, or wings.
