4055428 No.4055428 [Reply] [Original]

It just occurred to me while eating a melty pint of ice cream in bed that there should be a better way to gorge on liquified fat.

And apparently, there is:

http://www.pint-pal.com/index.html
http://www.foodservicewarehouse.com/polar-ware/t700dw/p372574.aspx

Suffice it to say I will be ordering both as Christmas gifts for myself.

What other weird cooking contraptions does /ck/ own?

That looks like tons of fun, moot, what's the first thing you're going to do with it?

I've toyed with ice-cream makers before (easy to find/cheap) at garage sales, but I never really got into it.
I'm considering getting a brewer's kit to ferment some mead though, if that counts.

Probably sit in bed and eat a whole pint of ice cream, because as of now it starts getting melty by the time I'm halfway through.

That or I should just buy a bigger spoon.

it's... an ice cream cozy. neat!

as far as weird cooking things... i've got some think gauge wire i fashioned into a holder for truffle cores when i dip them into chocolate. uh... nothing too weird. i need more cool kitchen junk.

Because nobody comes here and we're too old to give a fuck about moot.

Anyway my weirdest cooking contraption is a "meat hook" that I bought from a vendor at a swap meet. Its pretty much a metal hook shaped thing with a wooden handle used to pick up meats from a grill and flip them over. It works better than tongs or a spatula and the best thing is the guy hand burned the words "meat hood" into the wooden handle with a cheap wood burning pen.

still here moot?

anything on this site is pretty wacky: http://www.thisiswhyimbroke.com/gift-guide/food-and-drink-gifts

i used to have some butter contraption that would hold the butter under water, keeping it from going rancid or something like that. it was stupid.

I bought these while in Taiwan, and they have tons of other nifty smart kitchen stuff there, but I'm quite confident this was a Japanese innovation. It isn't that amazing but it probably saves a kid or a few sensitive Susie's out there from burning their little fingers while retrieving something hot from the m.wave/countertop to dining table.

In my mind, I'd like to think some sweet young man designed this for his mom so she'd be more comfortable in the kitchen.

Maybe this is a cultural thing... but Asians don't really seem to invest in "simple solutions" for fruit peeling/coring. All I can remember growing up is my grandma/parent expertly peeling apple skins off with a tiny knife. It's probably why to this day I see any person who peels an orange (by hand, no knife!) for me as being affectionate.

Half my order came 2 days ago, the other half will come in ~25 days. thats messed up yo.
