Hey there /ck/. I'm in the process of making a cookbook directed at College Students living in dorms, such that they're able to make decent food that doesn't suck, using the bare minimum of cooking gear (ovens, stoves, ect.)

Would any of you fine individuals happen to have any ideas of recipes that I can try and add?

I also want to make sure that the recipes are as simplified as possible, so that its easy for people to make them.

So everything from

And if you don't know any, but have any ideas of where I could research stuff like this, it'd be great. I know of a few things, like no bake fudges and brownie mugs that would work, but for proteins and main meals? No clue whatsoever.

All of those require ovens and such. I'm trying to avoid using those.

>>4010073
Can you add other meats to this to make it meatier?

>> No.4010088

>>4010087
I wouldn't see why not. You're pan searing the bacon, add in some other stuff as well and you can easily make it better.

So what you want is something that DOESN'T need ovens?

>> No.4010090

that mug brownie recipe

not the complicated one with the egg in it, but the one that's like:

4tbsp sugar
4tbsp flour
2tbsp cocoa
2tbsp water
2tbsp oil

mix in a mug, microwave for just under a minute and a half

Like ground beef or something you think?

>>4010090
Yes things like this. Things like this are good.
>>4010091
It wouldn't be carbonara by the definition any more, but it'd definitely be easy to do. Just cook the ground beef the same way you would when dealing with a hamburger helper sort of thing and add it in.

>> No.4010094

OP, there used to be an image floating around here of things you could add to instant noodles to make them a whole lot better. If you're targetting college kids, add that.

Just did this. Turned out okay. Maybe a little more sugar.

Naturally there will be testing to ensure recipe validity.

For the sake of a college student on a budget, does brownie mix work as well?

>> No.4010170

>>4010093
Yeah not necessarily going for strict definition carbonara, just thinking about what else could go with it.

College student here. People who live in on-campus apartments have ovens (at least here we do). If they're living in the dorms, they have next to no hope of cooking anything anywhere in there. If they're living off-campus, it obvious they'll have an oven in their kitchen.

I still haven't attempted this, looks delicious.

I like to make these, but I do them in a more American way.

For the center I place a patty of fried hashbrowns, with shredded cheese, then the top. I have a little white on the pan to check for egg doneness then I flip it. When the other side is done I put a small amount of shredded cheese on the top and flip it again.

Smell for that burnt cheese smell, then add cheese to the top again and flip it one final time. You can use any cheese for this, but you probably want to top it with sharp cheddars, but you could add any cheese you want to the hashbrown filling.

Benefit of this is that it's way more filling and it's pretty much an entire breakfast in a sandwich.

peta beat you to it dude. good luck trying to top their recipes in terms of ease and flavor.

Shepherd's pie got me through a long stretch of severe brokitude. Delicious, dirt cheap to make, and unless you're severely retarded, practically impossible to fuck up.

This recipe is okay, but I usually use some peas, and some cornstarch to the mixture just to thicken it up.

Also, one time, as an experiment, I made mexican shepherd's pie by adding some chorizo, using salsa instead of tomato paste, cholula instead of worcestershire, and adding some asadero cheese and chopped jalapenos to the mashed taters. Untraditional as fuck, but it was delicious.

>> No.4013251

I made that myself two years ago. I'm kinda proud it's still around.
Of course you can add all the meat you like, but I think it's "meaty" enough as it is. You could use mushrooms, ground beef and oregano instead of the bacon. I'm sure that would also be good.

I've avoided posting in this thread because I dislike the idea of a college cookbook coming out of /ck/.

College cooking is already sortof a shot in the dark, the whole point is to figure shit out yourself and most college students would ignore/despise such a book even if they got it. Of the small percent that actually would be happy to receive it... they are well enough connected with their family that they won't really enjoy the sudden shift in diet/recipes, they will fall back on the family standards or do what most college kids do - eat with 0 effort involved.

anyway. I think this idea is pretty fail. I thought it was time you should know.
