Does anyone on here eat a main dish besides turkey on Thanksgiving? I've never eaten turkey aside from the sandwich slices; we always eat pork on Thanksgiving.

Tofurkey master race coming through

Usually we'll do both a fried turkey and a smoked brisket for thanksgiving. Fajitas and gumbo are the christmas dinner.

Cornish game hens. But honestly, the meat portion of thanksgiving dinner is my least favorite part.

My mom's vegetarian and so are a lot of her friends, so I've had tofurkey before. I've got to say that you're completely delusional if you think it tastes better than real turkey.

We're going turkey-free for our post-Thanksgiving friends-not-family feast here. I was going to do a pecan-butter stuffed pork roast (pic related - the test batch last night was awesome), but our neighbor got a deer yesterday so it's going to be roast leg of Bambi instead.

On the actual day I'll be at my folks place with the turkey and cornbread dressing and all the other standards, but we wanted to go a little different for our after-party.

We have turkey, but I honestly like honey ham a lot better.

>> No.4008097

Nope. Turkey is for Thanksgiving, Beef is for Christmas.
Pork is for another time.
I wouldn't mind doing some game meats, but haven't had that opportunity. Honestly, though, I don't really like ham. Tastes good, but too salty, makes me swell up like a motherbitch.

Ham for thanksgiving, always. I don't mind turkey, but I prefer ham.

Beef for christmas, always like to make a nice bone-in prime rib roast.

Despite my own and everyone else's keen observations, I'm not crazy after all. Big dry-ass turkey every year (had it for TG, Easter, and Xmas growing up), mom always had a hair across her ass throughout the holiday because of the work/worry involved (very picky and proud of her cooking, hated presenting a food she hasn't mastered to the entire extended family)... Argh. And all the baked sides had to be made the day before and reheated because the turkey hogged up the oven all morning.

Now its just me and the G and what would we do with a giant turkey? Been racking mah brain for a week trying to decide what to substitute. First few years by ourselves we got whatever tasted good (same old shit we always eat) but when you abstract the traditional food aspect from the holiday it just feels pitiful.

Tl;dr: the Duck thread a few posts back is what I will try. Its kind of like a little turkey, but allegedly its succulent and flavorful. Sound terrific.

Making a roast chicken or two here. We have a small family, and nobody much likes turkey.

I really only care about the sides. Fuck yeah carbs!

>> No.4008465

America Wop here.

used to do the double meal marathon when growing up.

Primi, Secondi, Contorni, then the full turkey bird dinner.

We'd start at around 1pm, with friends, neighbors relatives filtering in and out of the house, then around 5 or 6, we'd start in with the Thanksgiving stuff.

You learned quick to stake out any flat, soft surface for the onset of food coma.

We usually have a ham. I come from a Mexifag family, so we'll also have tamales, and for some reason, paella.

Then we'll have roughly the same meal again a month later for Christmas.

I always buy a small ham, but I think that's because no one in my family knows how to cook the turkey right.

We'll know in a few days though, I'm in charge this year.

Turkey is not so great. We usually end up getting spiral-sliced ham and preparing it in a sweet sauce.

Dad hates turkey, so we have Lobster every year.

>> No.4008746

Always turkey for Thanksgiving. Always. And it's pretty much the only time of year I eat it. Sometimes we'll go out for dinner though, which may sound blasphemous, but it's really quite nice.

Christmas used to be ham growing up, but my mom made lamb a couple years ago on a whim and that worked out so well we've been doing it since.

ok, it's rather simple.

people who know the local culture are natives, aka americans.

people who are lost, are foreigners. this is true in every human culture. it is not an american thing.

just because we have this special flower group of people known as "native americans", meaning "indians", doesn't mean that people with an ounce of reasoning can't see that people born in the usa are native americans.

lol. i love PC idiots.

One time my family was in Los Angeles on Thanksgiving. We decided to go to an Indian restaurant. We were the only white people in their and got some strange looks. The waiter quietly took us to an empty side room. The food was pretty good though.

>> No.4010397

I typically don't celebrate holidays They are an expensive, wasteful use of money, resources, and time. The stores are absolutely crazy this time of year. Where does everyone come from? People are sheep.

>nb4 edgy

But I wouldn't see anything wrong with roasting a chicken and some potatoes. Maybe something green like peas on the side.

I tend to like really basic foods. Salt and pepper only. Some kind of light oil to coat.
