Fuck you, that stuff is awesome. You know, some people have been using chia seeds for a long time, it's not just a fucking hipster thing. My neighbor when I was a kid used to eat chia seeds, and that was back in the 1980s. Just because the "cool kids" pick up on something doesn't make it bad. Those of us who are way too old to be called "hipsters" just patiently wait for the little ones to get tired of their playthings so we can go back to enjoying our stuff the way it should be.

This is why /ck/ will always be terrible. Instead of ignoring things you don't like you post it for no one in particular to read. This is the definition of "exercise in futility."

Most of the benefit would be from the probiotics in it. If you get it from the store, it's been pasteurized and yeah it's pretty useless. I had some brewed by a friend and it was light, fizzy, and only mildly vinegary- pretty good.

There are more bacteria in and on your body than there are your body's cells.

The digestive tract is particularly interesting. It is more or less like a long giant apartment complex in which bacteria move in and start manufacturing things for use by your body.

>> No.3996856 [DELETED]

>>3996831
I fully understand that. The bacteria in kombucha , kefir or sauerkraut are not the same and do nothing in your gut.
Hippies making shit up and you believing it is all that is happening here.

>> No.3996872

>>3996856

You obviously don't fully understand it. The foods you listed contain things like lactic acid bacteria which actually move into your gut and start manufacturing things like amino acids and fatty acids your body can't manufacture or get from food on its own.

>> No.3996887

>>3996872

That is just one kind of bacteria. There are other kinds of acidic bacteria in that stuff which perform different functions such as adjusting the Ph balance of the gut.

that is exactly the lie that you believe. The L Acid bacterium in the kombucha are not the same as the ones in your gut. They are far from genetically identical . They are not compatible and will not live in a human host no matter what whole foods tells you.

I don't know about Kombucha per se, but there is extensive research on L. acidophilus (found in things like Kefir,) which have profound benefits on the immune system and have even been found to reduce serum cholesterol levels. So yes, without any doubt, "probiotics are healthy".

I don't believe in hating any food without trying it periodically, say once every couple years, to see if it has changed or improved.

In this case. Today Kombucha was tested.

There is no change. Still sucks.

OBJECTIVE:
Two controlled clinical studies were performed to examine effects of consumption of one daily serving of fermented milk (FM) (yogurt) on serum lipids.
METHODS:
In the first study, subjects were randomly allocated to FM containing Lactobacillus acidophilus L1 of human origin or to FM containing L. acidophilus ATCC 43211 of swine origin. In this single-blind study, subjects consumed one 200 ml serving of FM daily for 3 weeks. The second study was a double-blind, placebo-controlled, cross-over study. Subjects completed a 4-week first treatment, had a 2-week washout, and completed a second 4-week treatment. In the second study subjects consumed FM containing L. acidophilus L1 or placebo FM over 4 weeks.
RESULTS:
In the first study, FM containing L. acidophilus L1 was accompanied by a 2.4% (p<0.05) reduction of serum cholesterol concentration. In the second study, strain L1 reduced serum cholesterol concentration by 3.2% (p<0.05) in the first treatment period. In the second treatment period there were no significant changes in serum cholesterol concentration. Combined analysis of the two L1 treatment studies demonstrated a 2.9% (p<0.01) reduction in serum cholesterol concentration.
CONCLUSION:
Since every 1% reduction in serum cholesterol concentration is associated with an estimated 2% to 3% reduction in risk for coronary heart disease, regular intake of FM containing an appropriate strain of L. acidophilus has the potential of reducing risk for coronary heart disease by 6 to 10%.

RF, are you actually autistic? Most of the posts I see you make are out of the blue, uncalled for, and somewhat hostile. It's an old drink, some rich white people picked it up, it's commercially produced, and now apparently useless.

People drink it because it's funny, because it's completely stereotypical health fodder. The fact that you are unable to appreciate a food for its social context or anything other than its taste just screams autism.
