Steamed buns sog faster, they don't have the lovely flavor of the char and seared bread surface, they have poor structural integrity so you can't load your dog or hold it firmly, and above it all -

- hot dogs SHOULD be grilled. So the buns SHOULD be warmed on the grill, not in a steamer.

Unless you are steaming your hotdog.
In which case, you should still toast the bun (or just eat it plain, untoasted... you hotdog steamer you)

The Sonoran hot dog, found in Tucson, Metro Phoenix, and in neighboring Sonora, Mexico, is a hot dog wrapped in mesquite-smoked bacon then cooked on a grill or on a griddle or comal, then topped with freshly chopped tomatoes, onions, shredded yellow or cotijo cheese, guacamole, tomatillo salsa or red chili sauce, pinto beans, mayonnaise, ketchup and/or mustard, and served on bread and often with a fresh-roasted chili. I've not been to Hot Dougs, but I've been to a local place in Cincinnati called Senate, pic related. It's wonderful. I like adventurous hot dogs.

Otherwise, sauerkraut, relish, mustard, onions suit me fine. On the other hand, Cincinnati chili with mustard and onion is a nice treat too.

Yeah, I've been really impressed with all the different food varieties here. It's my first year at Trent (local university), so I wasn't sure what to expect, but the amount of ethnic restaurants and other varied food-related places are like something you would see in a city twice this size.
