How would you rate it

Local chain of stores is Fiesta Mart. And I'm from Houston. I rate it a 7/10. The produce selection is decent and they sort of specialize in selling ethnic foods. Mostly hispanic stuff but they also have other ethnic imports that you won't find in a usual grocery store. The prices are OK, good sales but many things are cheaper at HEB. They sort of look a bit run down and dated but I'm cool with that.

Coborn's/Cashwise

It's a local chain with decent prices and selection.
Unfortunately they don't have much competition anymore. After the local Cub stores folded the only other grocery stores are a Byerly's and a small Aldi. Sure there's a Walmart and Sam's Club, but I never go there.

I have a pretty big selection here in Fort Worth.

I have a Safeway (Tom Thumb, Randalls, what have you), which I like for its sourdough bread and store brand cottage cheese (the only kind I find actually tasty). 8/10.

Kroger is the second closest and is good for fast trips to pick shit up. Nothing noteworthy. 7/10.

Fiesta is closest but is far too ghetto. They have a cop stationed at the doors at all times. However, there is a little Mexican lady that sells elotes out of a cart up front, and they're probably insanely delicious. 4/10.

Sprouts is the farthest out of my lot and is a weird mix of very, very expensive "organic" stuff and the cheapest, most awesome produce in town. The first time I went I got a couple pounds of carrots, romaine hearts, celery, and bell peppers or something and it was like $3.21 and I was fucking amazed. 10/10 for produce and bulk food, 5/10 for the rest of the weird hippie stuff.

We have Bashas', Safeway, Fry's (Kroger), Food City, Sprout's, Whole Foods, Winco, Costco, Walmart, Target, Sam's Club, Fresh N' Easy ,AJ's and Trader Joe's and Lee Lee's

Lee Lee's is an asian grocery where I buy rice and beans, spices, and specialty meats.
Winco I go to get various bulk items.
Sprout's has the best and cheapest produce.
Costco I buy paper towels and toilet paper.
Bashas' has the best quality meat, deli, and bakery.
Fry's (Kroger) I go to for general shopping.

As far as ratings go I can't really rate them, I shop wherever is cheapest and the best value.

I'm originally from metro Detroit. Oakland County, to be exact.
We used to have Farmer Jack's, but they went under. A damn same, too, that chain used to be badass. I had a friend whose dad did the voice of Farmer Jack on the commercials.
Now we have Hiller's and Kroger, both are shit. I used to work produce at the biggest Kroger in Michigan; it was terrible.
That being said, some Krogers are better than others. Overall, I'd give them a score of 7.5/10, not quite an 8. Hiller's, on the other hand, gets a high 9/10 for having an awesome world food aisle.

The decor is really upscale and the stores are impeccably clean, but the selection isn't remarkable and it's pretty pricy.

7/10

Also, we're home to Hy-Vee, which has a huge variance in quality between stores. The flagship suburban stores are just as nice as Dahl's, but there are a ton of inner-city locations that probably haven't been updated and/or cleaned since they were built in the 70s. They're also a regional chain, so they don't really count.

The two major chains nearby are Kroger and Meijer.

Overall I'd give Kroger about an 8/10 and Meijer about a 7/10. Kroger's main problem is that the layout of their store is awful.

Meijer has a better layout, and a slightly better selection, but they are constantly ridiculously fucking busy. It doesn't matter when I go in there either. It can be 1 AM or 2 in the afternoon on a Tuesday and they'll have at least half the registers open with a line at every single one.

There's a lot of HEB stores here, which are actually really great. Comparing them to somewhere like Tom Thumb or Kroger, 9/10. I feel like I spend a lot more money at other places than HEB. Might juts be because I shop there more.

Haven't done any serious shopping at other places. Whole Foods has a different variety but is pretty over-priced with stuff. Albertsons I haven't seriously shopped at but there are a few I've been to. Central Market and Market Street are some others I haven't seriously shopped at either.

So HEB wins.

Their stores are really clean, all were recently remodeled and they have a good selection of produce and ethnic food. Little bit more expensive sometimes.
>Sunmart
The in-between grocery store as far as selection and prices. Pretty basic in every way. Sometimes they have some badass specials like the time I went and basically all snacks were half off. This is my store of choice.
>Cashwise
The ghetto store, but I still like going here sometimes because they have great coupon specials and a free item every week if you purchase a certain amount. For some reason it's always crowded and their customer base seems to include a lot of the kind of stereotypical Walmart crowd.

We have probably 5+ small ethnic food stores if those count. I really wish we had a Trader Joe's or a Whole Foods.
