I heard a line from a chef one time that really stuck with me. He was criquing another chef's food which was made in a very sloppy unprofessional manner although the ingreadants were of a good quality. He said something to the effect of:

"This animal was to be part of a meal. It was deserves to be so much more then just this."

And that really stuck with me. In these days with fast food and drive throughs do you think we've all but lost the almost spirtual connection with food?

Are there any dishes that, no matter what is happening around you, you spend all of you time and effort to make sure it gets done right out of respect?

What was the last meal that you had that really caught your attention at how well/lovingly it was made? Talking about real quality in ingredients and technique.

MASHD POTATOR

And well, the last meal my boyfriend made me. Salmon with yummy veggies and quinoa. Just because he made it for me.

As much as I would love to be able to say that having the animals that eventually become my meals being treated humanely is important to me, it really isn't.

Animals aren't sentient. They can't contextualize pain. They don't understand the concept of suffering. They are creatures that operate on instinct and conditioning.

Sometimes I wonder if people had to kill their own animals for meat how many people would still eat meat.
I know I'm no good when it comes to killing things, I even feel sorry for the fish when I go fishing.
I'm not a veggie fag or anything but I do think about where my food comes from and hope that no animals had to suffer so that I could eat it.

I can understand that. I like to think it more spiritual the religious but even then, we can talk about it just a waste of an ingrediate. Imagine making Kraft EZ Mac and then putting a very high quality truffle on it or making a sloppy greasy omlete of quail eggs and then slopping on some shitty salsa for whatever reason or having some beautiful marbled Beef and then making some shitty hamburger with loads of BBQ sauce on it.

I guess think about it more like "lost potential" if you don't like the spiritual element of food.

Countries/areas that still have wet markets (Asia) and big hunting cultures (Some US States) probably wouldn't have a huge problem, kids are used to it and know that the meat in a dish comes from a once living, breathing animal.

It's the pussified morons who think seeing a whole chicken that isn't cut into different parts, bone and skin off is horrifying that would have a huge problem. But then again, you starve a person for a long enough and they'll probably try anything.

People would adjust to it, accept it and move on.
A few might turn vegetarian, but maybe only 1/4 of them would stick to it.

Butchered animals used to be a common sight in every culture. Going back to that wouldn't suddenly turn the world vegetarian.

You know, it's weird, and really random, but I hate when people fuck up pasta.

It's nowhere near the level of an animal that died so you can eat it, but the fact that people fuck up something simple as pasta shows that they don't have enough respect for food to even do that right.

Exactly, that's what I'm talking about. Pasta can be really straight forward but now imagine it was made with the best ingredients with it turning into playdough. Happened to me once, I felt awful.
