How can anyone be this bad at cracking an egg?

>> No.3901667

Are you fucking kidding me? I've been cracking eggs one-handed since I was ten. I have a feeling that this .gif is designed only to irritate us. If not, sauce.

My old culinary school teacher, she used to run around the kitchen and scream crazy things. Lots of broken jewish phrases and things from movies. One thing she'd always say though, was

>"You are COOKING like a HOUSEWIFE."

And she would say this in regards to shitty handling of a knife, slow cutting, lazy cooking methods...and it never ceases to amaze me how much these infomercial products (Slap-chop, Magic Bullet, Garlic Roller, EZCracker) reminds me SO much of her. Damn I miss her.

I don't know that feel as the shells on the eggs you can buy in my country are quite tough, and are brown. Why is that? Why are North American eggs always white with paper thin shells?

I was just gonna ask that. Even the cheapest battery cage white eggs here aren't THAT pale. It's like alabaster. Do they dye them or something to make them aesthetically pleasing for the American market?

The color is because we use a breed of chicken that has one of the highest egg yields, and for the color, I believe that's thanks to some good ol' genetic modification and cross breeding. And I wouldn't doubt we wash the eggs with some kind of harsh cleaner to get all the shit off the outside, cause you better believe there's some serious shitstains on those eggs.

>> No.3901738

>>3901729

I know they're washed, at the very least. I hear it's common in Europe and Asia to store eggs at room temperature, which is possible because of a natural coating that gets washed off during our production process.

Of course, I haven't looked up this shit at all and might just be repeating crap.

I don't know about the rest of America, but my eggs aren't that white. I'm guessing that was intentional by the infomercial producer, like how glue is used instead of milk in ads because it's whiter.

It's also the lighting in the infomercial. Gotta be all bright and all that jazz.

It's called the dumbing down of America. They want you to think you're too stupid to crack an egg, so you need to buy a product that helps you to crack the egg. I'm sure no other country has a problem with cracking an egg. Only Murrika makes it look like such an impossible task.

Different chickens lay different coloured eggs. I've never personally seen eggs as white as that but my boyfriend said when he had chickens, some laid white ones, some brown and some speckled. I think it depends on the type of chicken or something like that.

You can wash the color off an egg, it's just a huge pain in the ass. Color is the last coat on the egg, so if you get it fresh enough or soak it long enough you can scrape that shit off.

Commercial eggs are bleached, but for sanitation, not color.

Like 'pink' eggs, it's not actually purple. It's a shade of brown that tints it just right to make it seem purple, but it's just a brown egg.

First off, you should crack eggs on a flat surface, not an edge. Whether or not you want to use one hand or two is your choice.
Secondly, (and this is just me being conversational here), my eggs are almost always brown and/or arucana b/c I buy them at the farmers market. Way cheaper than the store, actually. I can get a flat of multi-breed eggs for $5. My favorites are the speckled ones. I always like it when I get a bunch of speckled eggs in my flat.

I've got to say, while this product is obviously shithouse, and while most of these products are pointless in the extreme and designed for those with too much money and little sense - the vast majority of shit we buy is basically no better.

Also, we might not be the target market. I've got two disabled friends and their lives consist of the kinds of shit that I've always mocked and been cynical about. But turns out, when you've got muscle problems, you need all these stupid gadgets to enable you to be more independent.

Apparently you risk breaking the yolk or someshit.

I started breaking mine on a flat surface years ago after seeing some TV chef do it, I can't say it has a huge advantage but I've pretty much never had a cracking mishap since switching styles.

I don't think it's anything to get butthurt over, it's personal preference.

>>3905232
Just lost one recently this way. She was way cool - would slide down one of the ramps like a surfer. That said - ANY additive in factory farming adds up. It is cheaper to lose a few egg bound chickens occasionally (an item that can replace itself) than it is to buy more calcium supplement than necessary. The 'easier to crack' thing is a side benefit.

This makes me hurt inside.

Cracking an egg properly was one of the first things my parents taught me about cooking, when I was like, what, maybe 8?

Its something I can't understand people having difficulty with.
