Goetta http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goetta

Glier's supplies most restaurants and it comes down to how they cook it, I like Mokka in Newport across the river. They have a goetta avalanche sandwich which they cook perfectly but I like the different varieties available at the yearly goetta fest.

the Sonoran style hot dog is the best known "original" dish I can think of from this area
it's a hot dog wrapped in bacon and topped with tomatoes onions hot salsa mustard mayo cheese and usually pinto beans

this is an excellent street food and that's where you usually find the best ones
some people make a lot of money selling these to the bar crowd after hours

I had to post because of how hard I lost to that picture OP

Philadelphia: stromboli. Not generally well-known outside of this area, it seems. It comes in two varieties: type 1 is similar to a cinnamon roll, swapping the sweet filling for salami and/or or ham and other meats etc and cheese. The other looks like a loaf of bread but has a centre of meat, cheese and tomato paste.

I've mentioned it to tons of tourists that come to Philadelphia and they've seemingly no idea what it is. I started to mention it about a year ago or so when I realised that all people from outside the area seem to know is cheesesteak and TastyKake.
Another thing I've never /ever/ seen available outside of the area, though it's completely disgusting, is pizzazz, a piece of foccaccia topped with margarine, slices of Kraft cheese, pickled banana pepper rings and raw tomatoes, dusted with a sprinkling of "Italian seasoning." From what I understand, though originally a food from Northeast Philadelphia, it entered into the rest of the city in the late 80s. No surprise that it's from up there since the Northeast generally sucks.
You also never see snapping turtle stew/soup outside of the Philadelphia area. When I first moved here, quite a few diners had it, but it has since fallen out of fashion and the last diner of which I was aware that still served it was the Aramingo Diner in Port Richmond, a neighbourhood here. I don't know if they still serve it as I've not been there in quite some time.
Another thing from around here is the rather delicious (when it's good) "Spanish fries." Similar to "crab fries" (fries with Old Bay seasoning), Spanish fries are dusted in smoked paprika and salt, then tossed with caramelised onions and sautéed and/or pickled chilies.
It is eaten with a fork.
It was invented by an Italki/Sephardic Jewish couple who are also the originators of the chicken cheesesteak, Italki jews not considering the Jewish dietary ban on meat and dairy to apply to chicken.

Tampa Bay; aka "Home of the Newly-Wed and Nearly-Dead."

We really only have two "local" things down here. Seafood and awesome Cuban food. (Tampa was full of Cuban immigrants way before Castro; like late 19th Century).

My favorite "local" dish has to be the Cuban sandwich, "Tampa" style.

Fresh Cuban bread (+ real lard), baked every morning from "La Segunda" (The Second) bakery in Ybor City, topped with serrano ham, roasted mojo pork, Genoa salami (thanks Tampa Wops!), mild Swiss, mustard, and kosher pickle slices (thanks Tampa Jews!).

This beast of a sandwich is pressed on a flat top "a la plancha" when ordered, and immediately achieves a perfect crusty/warm/melty dynamic. The only way to make it better is to cover it with hot sauce, preferably a Louisiana red-pepper style like Crystal or, shit, Louisiana brand.

Sorry Miami, but you can keep your lettuce and tomato. We did it first, and we do it better.

>> No.3899392

>>3899386

Yes, I know that the sandwich in my post contains lettuce. Unfortunately, it was the only "good" looking photograph of a Tampa-style Cuban I could find on page one of Google Images, lol.

Besides, lettuce is more of a "meh" ingredient on a Cuban. The acidity of a tomato will fuck everything up though.

AFAIK pudding chômeur (NEET pudding) is unique to this region of space and maybe the most spectacular baked dessert I know of, in its confection, anyway.

It's essentially pound cake batter onto which is poured a caramel syrup. It's then baked.

The caramel actually drips to the bottom and the cake ends up floating on top. The top becomes glazed with caramel while the bottom is soaked in a thick, gooey syrup.

It's a nice dessert. My mother used to have an amazing recipe. It was the talk of the entire family and even some neighbors and friends but it was lost in a fire.

I think that's the only real heirloom that was lost and mentioned after. I lost my teddy bear too but no one ever dared talk about it.

Satay Bee Hoon (literal: satay sauce noodles)

Originally a method to rehydrate old, moldy cheese, it's a beergarden cheese spread now.
1) 1/5 Romadur cheese
2) 3/2 Camembert cheese
3) 1/5 Butter
4) Paprika powder, freshly crushed Caraway seeds
5) Beer
Put ingredients in food processor, when done, mix in some Beer till it's spreadable. Let it stand for some hours in the fridge, eat cooled on bread with radish while getting drunk.

Northernmost parts of Sweden

This is kaffeost (coffee cheese), which tastes a lot like a less salty version of Haloumi. It's commonly put in coffee to soak before you eat it, but here instead served with cloudberries, which is absolutely fucking delicious.

It's weird that Sweden has such good cuisine, when Norway and Finland seem to hate their own.

Bump for one of the most interesting threads i've seen in a long time

>tfw you live in a nameless country town only near other slightly larger nameless country towns and no one eats anything other than fast food and steak
>tfw panda express, taco bell and fazolis in the strip mall are the closest thing to ethnic food for 400 miles and this thread reignited your deep wanderlust but you can't leave home due to family obligations/illnesses

Seriously, fuck Wyoming.
