Hey /ck/, I just got a crock pot. My first use will be chili, but what else can I do with this thing?

POT ROAST MOTHERFUCKER. Do a nice chuck roast on top of onions, potatoes, and carrots. Also, stews, soups, and vegis!

It's highest and best use is to make chicken or beef stock. Just remember to roast the bones first.

Add fresh thyme and whole peppercons with enough water to cover and in 12 hours you have a stock that basically makes itself.

lentils. and indian curries. with lentils. but seriously, throw that thing away and buy a pressure cooker. exactly the same results in 1/4 the time or less

So far I have on the ideas list:
Pulled pork (tacos, barbecue)
Pot roast
Soups

How do I clam chowder? Can I make refried beans in it?

Everything.

You can use it for baking bread too. There's even cook books based around baking bread in crock pots and rice cookers. I don't remember the name of it though, sorry.

Sometimes though, you just want to put everything into the crock, set it, and go out. Like if I went to work, I could have dinner ready and waiting for me after 8-10 hours of not being in the house, as opposed to having to time things so that I return in time for the meal to be done. Or having to start my dinner later than I'd like.

Also, OP? Throw a beef heart, a couple diced onions, several garlic cloves, spices and water in there, and make yourself some tender heart soup. Or stew, if you care to thicken if after. Soooo good.

the prep is the same, just takes 20 mins max to cook. why leave it going all day if you dont have to?

throw some steel-cut oats in overnight with milk, apple slices, butter, nutmeg and cinnamon

you will be like, "what the fuck? why is this breakfast all ready for me and why does it taste amazing and why does my house smell like apple pie?" and then you will remember that some smart guy on the internet told you to do a thing

yeah this is probably my favorite crock pot thing

beef short rib is super good in the crock pot too, as is pork shoulder, or any cut of meat that's high in connective tissue

This x 1000 times. Finish with brown sugar and possibly raisins the next morning. Excellent breakfast.

crock pots are good for making beans, too, liked baked-bean style beans

soak dried beans overnight, toss out the water

put them in crock pot with chopped up salt pork, onion, red pepper, tomatoes, garlic, and molasses or maple sizzurp, sriracha optional, top with boiling water from the kettle and leave to cook for hours

eat with crusty bread or over rice

I usually throw a half-dozen chorizo sausages in too, browned and chopped up
