Are there any advantages to using margarine over butter?

I bought margarine for the first time today at $3 for a 2lb tub. It's cheaper and more plentiful than a box of 4 butter sticks at $4.

I haven't used it enough to tell the difference between taste and whatnot. Google just tells me it's healthier.

Can /ck/ enlighten me?

Butter is better tasting and far healthier. Saturated fat > trans fat + saturated fat.

butter is better, always. Margarine is just cheaper, but a huge disappointment.

Margarine has the advantage of being spreadable straight from the fridge.

Butter is so much fucking better. It tastes like ten million times better. Shit fuck that margarine crap.

That's because it's oil.

According to my mother, margarine slows water from boiling over. When I used it during cooking, it seemed true. Still prefer butter though.

So does olive oil. That's the real reason you're supposed to add it to pasta while you're boiling it.

Margarine is for toast
Butter is for everything else

This stuff is amazing. Spreads straight from the fridge, no trans fat.

Margarine was originally butter for the poor.

I really don't like it so much because it is simply a tasteless emulsion of vegetable fats. Butter is so much better in just about everything!

You're not supposed to add it to boiling water. The only thing you should be putting in your pasta blanching water is salt. If you're worried about bubbling over, put a long spoon, or chopsticks or something over the edge to break the surface tension

Butter just tastes better. Also, 4 bucks for 4 sticks? I get great farm churned butter made locally for 2.50. 4 sticks and it tastes great.

Only thing I use margarine for is grilled cheese because it doesn't burn as easy as butter does.

Isn't margarine more unhealthy than butter, or was that something else? I remember the Good Eats butter episode saying something about it.

fuck you gypsy. ghee has no milk fat and is not used for anything but as a cooking oil. You cant mount with it, you cant use it as a spread or a sauce

>can't use it as a spread or a sauce
clearly you've never refridgerated ghee or dipped dosa in it
asshole

I've been hearing talk about this in real life a lot lately. Seems like most people I've talked to only use margarine at home and think butter is gross (I'm not even kidding). I have no idea why. I had a teenage cousin act like REAL BUTTER (his words, not mine) was some kind of rare thing while we were in a restaurant of all places. Also, margarine IS butter to a lot of people, that's the word they call it by. And the average person doesn't even seem to know the difference.

I haven't used margarine in my own cooking or as a topping since I was a kid, so I can't comment on the taste because I barely remember. I can easily go through half a stick of butter in a day, though. I fucking love butter. As for health, it could be debated for years and years with nothing ever settled. No one believes me when I tell them I consume so much butter because they think butter itself makes you fat.

I can confirm this. Dipped cold ghee is great.
