I was at the store today
looking at the beans
talk about overwhelming.

/ck/ rank the list of beans from god tier to shit tier.

I don't want to get red beans when pinto are better or when kidney are better than pinto, etc.

>> No.3865319

It depends on what you're making.

>> No.3865321

There is no tier list IMHO, every kind of bean has its own proper application. Except lima beans... fucking hate lima beans, they taste like a cross between grass and chicken liver.

God tier: beans you cook
Shit tier: canned beans

>> No.3865741

Black beans are the tastiest, they have a savory and almost meaty flavor. Red beans are also excellent. Pintos are ok but you need to add some chilis and maybe a bit of bacon. Avoid that navy and light colored beans, they suck.

The Crimson Cranberry bean is my current favorite, but you probably have never heard of it. It's pretty obscure.

But of course you have to shell them fresh. Personally, I wouldn't bother with dried or canned beans of any variety.

Speaking of crimson cranberry beans and bean soup, I highly recommend pistou soup, or « soupe au pistou ». Pic related: the ingredients.

Beans? Why don't you get a job so you can enjoy some real Texas chili instead of eating poverty bean soup

>> No.3866689

But all beans are terrible so there's not much reason to get any beans.

>> No.3866698

Pinto beans or Great Northern Beans are good all-purpose beans. Mild, earthy flavor and relatively soft texture.
Cannelini beans are excellent for soups, stews, and (my favorite) roasted garlic bean dip.

Kidney beans have a firmer texture, so are best suited for soups and salads. They don't mash well.

Black beans make excellent soup and gluten-free brownies. I have a delicious recipe for black bean soup made in a blender that's easy and really tasty. I also have a black bean brownie recipe that's awesome.

Garbanzo beans (aka chickpeas) are great for Hummus or in salads or curries.

Lima beans are great in casseroles, pureed in dips, or in stews.

Any other questions?
