American style sandwiches are always like that. I don't know why.

'would make me gag' isn't strong enough. Around here, you say 'made me through up', as the picture alone made you through up already. Added points for posting the picture of the guy vomiting for the 17534th time.

This is an old pic, but it was indeed delicious on my gourmet plating style. French bread rubbed with olive oil and pan toasted, cubed sirloin cooked medium with salt and pepper, and two slices of swiss. Cut it in half and made two meals out of it.

>heartburn from thinly sliced ham
>heartburn from ham at all

Do you take any medications for acid reflux? If you get heartburn from just ham you might want to consider getting some.

It's the culture of extravagance and abundance. The prevalent way of thinking that more is better, regardless of good taste.

And, well, I suppose these sandwiches are street/fast food, and as such originally meant to give the maximum of energy in a small, quickly consumed package so that the diner can get back to work or whatnot.

There is no "originally", this is how we do it in America.

My first time working in Europe I almost starved to death because I assumed it was possible to obtain food outside of the narrow breakfast/lunch/dinner windows. Turns out everyone drops everything and goes to eat no matter what.

Yes, it was 'thinly sliced ham'. but that's no longer a selling point when there's 15 layers

Of course we do, but in most office environments there's some flexibility. If I'm not extremely busy I'll go at 12 and socialize, but if I'm in the middle of something important I'll sometimes leave at 1 or even 2.

Apparently in Europe if you don't drop everything and rush for food, you're fucked.

Martino. I've asked it before on /ck/, but never got an answer: has anyone got a recipe for this? I practically lived on them when I did Erasmus in Belgium last semester.

Google doesn't deliver.

Are sandwiches that you cant actually pick up and eat, like a hot brown, or that sandwich, or any other "open faced" sandwiches, considered a sandwich? Or is it just some meat and cheese with bread somewhere.

> American style sandwiches are always like that. I don't know why.

If you are only going by the pics here it would seem more than half the American sammiches are overstuffed with meat. Its not nearly as common as you think. Its just the style that people like to post.

Of all the sandwich chains, I can only think of one that sells them like that (Primo's). It throws the balance off, meat is expensive, restaurants aren't in to wasting money by giving you extra meat you neither need nor want, and just as long as its not so thin you can see through it (Subway) no one complains thay they are getting fucked.

Further example, I've never met anyone who makes their sandwiches at home like that, Especially that stupid corned beef monstrosity, which is probably from that faggy diner in NYC on Man vs Food.

95% of the sandwiches I've eaten look similar in size/ratio to this on. With the meat folded over like that, you get about 2 layers of eat.
