>> No.3806212

Don't go to those shit tier restaurants brah, if I'm gonna spend money on food that I don't make shit's gonna be so cash.

>> No.3806217

can we just call them fast casual dining establishments? I know it sounds crazy, but NONE of those places are anywhere near me, but the last time I ate at chili's (under duress and on the road) I had lettuce wraps. I haven't eaten at any of the other places.

>> No.3806226

Ill grab fast food because I'm in a hurry. I won't pay 10 bucks for mediocre food from a chain when I can pay 12-15 bucks for MUCH better food.

Disgusting. What the fuck is wrong with this board.

You know, most restaurants use the same food supply companies. So it's not any healthier going to Pierre's C'este Levoui Bistro than it is going to Hardee's.

Chain restaurants actually receive most of their food precooked and frozen. Otherwise your olive garden in nyc will taste different from that in boston

Most food purveyors have a huge array of product lines from multitudinous sources, each designed to fit a specific budget or specification.

I get natural, grass-fed beef from a ranch 35 miles away through Sysco. I could also order the bottom-line bullshit they offer, and they would come in the same truck. You would have no way of knowing which is which.

I usually avoid chain restaurants, it's not much better than fast food, which is cheaper and quicker.

If I go to an Italian place, I'll usually get gnocchi because I'm not very good at making it. That's the only habit I can think of.

>> No.3807174

Chain restaurants have strict guidelines of cleanliness. Local places are shit except the day before health inspection.

outback- seared ahi tuna and a nice bacon cheeseburger to go with that

The only place I recall going to was Applebee's about a year ago.

French onion soup was ok. Cheese was melty enough and the soup itself tasted nice. It isn't like you can fuck it up that bad anyway.

and uhh. I honestly don't remember what I ordered it was that forgettable. Some chicken pasta dish or something.

Red Lobster - Loved them biscuits, Lobster was eh, but I'm spoiled as a New Englander. (Is the Northern Part of Central Long Island Considered New England?) The Shrimp skewers were average.

I always prefer to go to locally owned joints and take a chance rather than go to these places. Clam shacks, burger joints and [Insert Asian/Italian/Indian etc] take aways are what I live on when classes are in session.

>>3807990
they are bad in pretty much every way it is possible to be bad. they make bad, usually unhealthy food. the methods they use to get that food are usually terrible for the environment and create horribly bad working conditions. their popularity and their market dominance drive out small business and create a terrible, bland monoculture. there is nothing good about them. now, if you live in a place where there's no other options, or if people you dearly love insist on going there, or whatever, then sure fine whatever. but if you have any choice at all, use it to go somewhere that isn't as pernicious.

Because the franchisee has so much control over what sort of food is on the menu and how it's produced.

It's impossible to have quality control over such a large chain, that's why you can eat at one Applebees and have it be at least passably okay, and eat at another and be served garbage. The franchise has complete control over the menu, they give no thought to local or even seasonal ingredients, very often their food comes from the same sources for the entire country., And the positions for cook are better described as grill attendant than a chef. No one that actually gives a shit about food and knows what they're doing works at a chain diner because they'd be afforded no degree of creative control and paid dog shit salaries. You can be almost guaranteed it's stoned teenagers and burnt out middle aged low lives working in the kitchen. Or entirely staffed by illegal immigrants. And not the ones that can cook.

The food is hardly, if at all better than fast food, except you have to leave your car and wait longer to get it, and pay two and three times at much, when there's very likely an actual restaurant in your area that's just as affordable with much better food.

I now realize this could be accurate
I just caught up with an old acquanitance recently. Convo went something like follows.
>Him: Hey anon! You got sideburns!
>Me: And you got a throat tat... How are you going to get a job?
>Him: I got a job. I'm a cook at Red Robin
>mfw I'm glad I have never eaten there and I never will.
