Why does steak have such a cult around it? I've heard that cooking it past medium rare is awful, and the only thing anyone bothers to season it with is salt and pepper.

I like it medium to medium well. You eat what you like. Put ketchup on it if you wish.

>> No.3774069

Salt, pepper, garlic powder. Perfect meat.

I like it medium, usually.

My family has always eaten steak with tomato sauce, I usually season the meat with oregano and parsley as well.

But I mentioned it to certain steak purists I'd get my shit slapped.

Marinara sauce.

It's got a mystique of manliness to it. I have friends who can't cook anything else but insist that they're master grill cooks.

Grilling is kind of a difficult art to master. I live in an apartment now, I wish I could have a fucking grill.

Apartment fag here, you need to reserve a public park bbq and have a shin-dig. We did this last weekend, it was the tits. I told everyone to bring your own meat unless they wanted hot-dogs. most people brought more than they could eat, it was a good time.

The only salt and pepper thing is only really for when you spend a lot of money on really high quality meat and don't want to distract from the flavor of said meat which you paid a lot of money for.

I'm quite partial to blue cheese sauce on regular old grocery store bought sirloin, myself.

because steaks are a staple of cooking, just like rice. there are a million ways to cook them but, again like rice, the simple method is the best.basically, dont mess with a good thing, rare steaks with nothing but S&P taste the best.

>> No.3774341

I like adding garlic and (red) pepper.

when you pay $12 for a 1 pound cut of meat, it's because the shit is fucking delicious all on its own. adding salt and pepper just enhances it a bit.

>mfw you clearly have not eaten many different types of cuts and haven't realized the very real flavor difference in them

>> No.3774666

>>3774059
I usually put salt, Lemon and Lime, black pepper, and cayenne pepper on rib eyes, but every other cut doesn't get any other seasoning besides salt

>> No.3774667

The trolls from /b/ keep reeling them in.

>> No.3774717

the deal with cooking it past medium rare is the juices, most people if they cook it medium or higher either like leather, or take the time to marinate it or sauce it while cooking it to keep the meat from getting tough

>> No.3774732

It's the most basic food there is.

It's been cooked this way ever since protohumans could approach fire and shove dead animals on a stick in it.

The cult is to justify its existence 20,000 years later.

Just let the dinosaurs eat their steak, they'll join them shortly.

>> No.3774744

B/c it's the best cut of meat and enjoyed for its' own taste.

Just buy a little cheap charcoal grill, and grill outside. I did it for a couple of years.

This. My favorite cut is ribeye. The fat rendering from the bone gives the meat an incredibly juiciness, and an almost buttery taste. Sirloin is a bit "meatier" tasting, and tenderloin has almost a creamy taste to it.

Hey, lemme make this all taste better

I only use it when I fail at cooking a steak (still learning, I tend to put too little salt/pepper for flavor).

I used to put it on everything though. I try not to these days since it really overpowers all of the flavor.
