What's the best way to cook brown rice /ck/? I wanted to use Alton Browns method today but I only have a microwave oven at my disposal.

I'm thinking of using the first method described in this link but I would like to consult you all first if you have any better ideas for this that doesn't incorporate too much butter or other crap. Thank you!

Also, using my rice cooker for brown rice never cooks them all the way through.

Get a cup of brown rice.
Wash it.
Drain it.
Rinse it.
Drain it again.
Repeat wash=>drain=>rinse=>drain another two times.
Soak rice, an hour (or even up to 6 or overnight) in 1½ cups of water.
Drain soaking water.
Melt an ounce or so (30-40g) of butter in a pot.
Add rice.
Sauté a few minutes.
Add 1 cup water or stock.
Bring to the boil. Lower the heat to a simmer; allow rice to absorb.
Rice will be both tender and chewy as well as fluffy.
Enjoy your rice.

That's how brown rice (which is an admitted rarity) is cooked in Iran, Afghanistan and by other Farsi/Parsi peoples.

I'm going with this method today. Thank you very much for the input. Seems simple enough which I like.

I will consider this next time when I use the rice cooker. Thanks.
