A thread to hail the mighty, but expensive, avocado.
When looking for an image I realized I cut the avocado in half sideways inside of longways...
Anyone else do this?

>> No.3735986

No, because that is retarded.

If you cut it sideways you are an idiot.

I love avocado and I eat a ton of them. Unfortunate they are so expensive

But seriously, cutting it longways is more efficient. How do you get the pit out that way?

Ouch. I thought $1 per avocado was bad...

fuck yeah, avocado. I cut em both ways, nobody loses either.

>> No.3736067

Avocado are undeniably delicious. I can normally find them for $1.50 a piece. A bit steep, but I spend too much on food to begin with, so I figure it doesn't really matter.

>> No.3736195

norcal fag here, avocados are 70 cents each at the local co-op. Suck it.

i had a smashed avocado-chickpea salad sammich for breakfast this morning. 1/2 avocado 1/2 can chickpeas chopped cilantro lime juice and onion between two fat slices of sourdough bread. Shit was so cash.

I live in Mexico, so avocados in here are cheap as fuck, about $1.50 for one kilo, but the thing is that I FUCKING HATE avocados.

Seriously, I can barely look at them without getting sick, let alone when they get smeared all over something I'm about to eat, because over here they put avocado on EVERYTHING.

Sometimes I'm having a hard time when it comes to food.

On rare occasions, I can get 2 small/medium ones for $1 (Montreal, Canada). Usually, they're $1 each and large ones at that. Though you'd have to go to an ethnic grocery store, not the chain ones.

In NYC, they're usually between $1.00-$1.50. On rare occasions they're cheaper but last time I saw it go under a dollar was over a year ago.

I don't have any interesting avocado recipes. Usually, I just sprinkle them in salt, coarsely ground pepper, and sesame seeds.

Avocados here range from 60 cents to a dollar. Major chains charge about $1.25 but that just makes me lol because the mom and pop shops are always cheaper and better

breast milk IS high in saturated fat, and also cholesterol. This isn't bad necessarily. Babies aren't like older folks, they need these things. Especially good for brain development. Avocado also has many health benefits for babies. My baby gets only a quarter of an avocado at a time, as stated before, and with a variety of other healthy foods and breast milk he is getting the nutrition he needs. I hope you aren't suggesting that breast milk for babies is unhealthy because I believe you would be mistaken. Later on when he is older his diet will shift and he will not require as much cholesterol and fat.
>>3736851
As far as the flavor goes, I find I do not care for the bright green avocados but the smaller dark green ones (haas). The flavor is rich and buttery like a savory custard almost. I don't think I have had a flovorless one as you described, I believe that having avocados without any flavor paired with it's thick custardy flesh would be a turnoff for me too.
Maybe try again, but a different variety.

I had a cashier who didn't know what an avocado once. They aren't popular where I live. Most people I know have only eaten guacamole at Mexican restaurants but have never bought one in a store. I eat them almost daily, despite the cost and being broke. I'm always amazed how well they go with a variety of foods. I've been wanting to try avocado ice cream for awhile now.

>>3736840
I don't see the connection there. I've had people who never had it before tell me that it tastes like vegetable butter, what butter would taste like if it came from a plant instead of an animal. That makes more sense to me.

>>3736863
They seem to vary in taste, but I've had some amazing ones straight with no salt. The texture is really what's great about it. Mash it up and add to a salad and you'll see what I mean.
