Tastes like nail polish remover drank straight, barely any decent cocktails, doesn't mix with readily available mixers to produce easy and tasy cocktails like rum, vodka or gin. Truly fucking useless. Whiskey needs to die out along with the boomers that imbibe it.

Ugh, yea. I hate being a fucking faggot but you better keep on to that one. I'll let you in on a little secret. When the economy crashed on 2007ish, it caused shortage in liquor production. 7yrs later, it was TOUGH to find small batch and top-tier shit. This will happen again but the pandemic/2020-2021 will be the marker. So hoard shit according to age and good luck on the resale market.

Talisker is something I wouldn't pay full price for, but it's fine as a less 'complex and full-on' peated whisky that works if you want something that gives you the core Islay flavor front and center without the very specific characters an Ardbeg or Laphroaig impose on you.

Despite the advertising, it's significantly less 'oceanic' than these other whiskys, so you'd be disappointed if were expecting something more salt 'n seaweed like. It does have a somewhat rich and satisfying flavor, but I found it just took a while after opening the bottle to get that (I'd initially tried it at a restaurant and found that it took a couple of weeks for the bottle to get the Laphroaig-lite flavor I remember it tasting like there).

Never been a huge whiskey fan, either.
I've had gifts from my customers ranging from many single malts 3-15yr and blends that really aren't bad at all but still not my cup of tea.
That said, I would rather not take from those that do enjoy it (acquired or otherwise) as I can sympathize.
Had something peaty the other month and bleurck, I'd rather drink vodka with yoghurt.
Recently given a 62% sherry/bourbon casked single malt that is far nicer, neat or even with ice than the aforementioned shit.

That that said said, I am just a slut for ethanol and make my own because it breaks even after about 4L of 92%, let alone a 200L raw sugar wash.
Done some full-strength blackstraps but meh, neutral goes best with pineapple and soda.

The good news is that you absolutely can.
I did a few mild and strong rums with vanilla/cinnamon ages and frankly they all went down well. Most weren't accustomed to having either/both without the huge sugar profile that most bottled variants come with but were quite happy to now know the difference.
Basement pot still and 5L amber jugs.

No idea why that one anon has such a hate-boner for Talisker. I'm drinking it back to back with Laph10 as we speak and the Talisker is no doubt the better whisky.

I honestly don't understand how people need to 'adjust themselves' to peat. The first time I drank peat whisky it was like "oh shit, I had no idea I needed this in my life". Like it heard it would be harsh and unpalatable, but it's just the most refined and sippable spirit I'd had and I don't remotely understand how people actually dislike this stuff. Now Ardbeg is my goto high end drink when I want to spoil myself.

Like, every other unmixed spirit tastes basically foul and raw in comparison to Islay style Scotch. It must by some "coriander tastes like soap" thing where my tastebuds are just perfectly adapted to this particular style of drink and it just makes complete sense to me and has 10 times the nuance and pizazz of everything else. I don't even smoke and it makes me want to take up cigar smoking.
