The worst cut of meat, they are incredibly cheap for a reason, they taste like shit, are annoying to eat and 20% of it is that inedible stringy fat stuff

no one is injecting, that would make holes. ALL parts are soaked in a brine solution. If you want the opposite, you'll buy kosher, the kosher salt actually reduces weight in kosher chicken.

I use them for stock. They're cheaper than carcases and have more meat. The fat from the skin doesn't matter in the least.

I mostly use these in curries. the bone adds earthy and savory tones to the brightness of the ginger/garlic/tomato/onion and once stewed they sort of fall apart making for easy consumption.
they're also the piece of choice when I eat fried chicken as it's self contained, has a good meat to skin ratio, and is flavorful dark meat.

Best meat in the whole chicken except for maybe liver. Actually the most flavorful, juicy, similar to wings but in bigger chunks, never gets dry. I always debone it and deep fry it or roast it and use the bones for some awesome soups and rendered fat from the skins for frying (a batter fried in chicken fat gets more flavorful) Consider that you might be a cooklet or a tastelet.

these are best roasted and left to go cold and then remove the meat from the bone. Now you have cooked chicken for salads and all kinds of dishes needing cooked chicken (fried rice is a good one and I use them for pad Thai this way as well). Cheap as chips. I normally cook a couple on Sundays for dinners in the week when I can't always be bothered to cook.

Chicken legs are 99 cents/lb at my Aldi right now. A few weeks ago, hindquarters were 69 cents/lb at one of my local grocery stores. Food prices have gone up, but a lot of you guys need to learn to shop smart and stock up when stuff is on sale. I guarantee that with smarter shopping mostpeople here could eat at pre-pandemic prices.

Nope, the wings are categorically the worst. Barely any meat, just bones and cartilage. Legs at least have SOME meat on em, and can be smoked to perfection. Wings are just like the neck - useless except for stock making.

Legs have a lot of uses and you can do neat shit to them.

>> No.20591824

For taste and price as well as stock-making, I suggest the humble chicken feet. Seriously the most chicken-y part of the bird. Cook your other chicken parts, especially the flavorless breast, with chicken feet. Plus they can be delicious on their own.

I just picked up a picture. I don't make this myself, my mom does. Not the same recipe because she doesn't use an oven at all, but this is what i found:

Ingredients (4 persons):

8 drumsticks
1 tablespoon sesame seeds
1 red pepper (in rings)
0.5 bunch of coriander (finely chopped)

For the marinade:

6 tablespoons ketjap manis
2 tablespoons of honey
2 tablespoons tomato ketchup
1 tablespoon sunflower oil
1 pinch chili powder
2 cloves garlic (finely chopped)

requirements:
roasting pan
aluminium foil

to prepare:

Mix the ingredients for the marinade in a bowl. Stir in the drumsticks and let marinate for at least 1 hour. Turn a few times. Roast the sesame seeds in a dry, hot frying pan.

Prepare:

Preheat the oven to 180ºC. Place the drumsticks with the marinade in the roasting tin, add 2 tablespoons of water and cover with aluminum foil. Roast in the middle of the oven for about 30 minutes.
Reduce the oven temperature to 160ºC. Remove the foil and stir everything. Continue roasting uncovered for 20 minutes. Sprinkle with the sesame, red pepper and coriander. Delicious with rice and a carrot salad
