What's a regional dish you've always been curious to try? For me it's this and a hot brown.

The New England lobster roll is mostly a tourist food, and I don't mean that in a bad way, just the opposite, you need to understand that fact in order to really enjoy it. Get a lobster roll from a BUSY stand/shack/truck by the ocean on a warm sunny summer day. Yes, you will pay $20-25. Alternatively, you could get one from a cheaper/less busy place inland, but you will still pay $15, and the experience won't be as nice. I mean, as long as the lobster is reasonably fresh and properly cooked, it's hard to get it completely wrong (especially since half its purpose is to serve as a vehicle for butter), but to me lobster is such a "light" meat, it's gone so quickly, that it's hardly worth the ridiculous price without the seaside vacation ambiance.

Opinions differ regionally about proper lobster temperature. CT serves it warm. ME serves it cold. This is one of the extremely rare instances where CT is actually right about something.

(In some years past you could even get lobster rolls from McDonalds in New England, but the combo meal was like $15 even pre-Biden, so again, save your money for the beach shack with the long line.)

t. used to drive through New England a lot (don't ask, organized crime)

It's called a "garbage plate".
>some run-down diner "invented" a dish consisting of a giant pile of misc leftover scraps mixed together to appease hobos and drunk kids who wanted to fill their stomachs as cheaply as possible
>when word of this foul practice spread, the diner trademarked the name "garbage plate" so that they could sell t-shirts to tourists (as if anyone ever goes to Rochester)
>other dives followed suit, offering similar dishes with non-trademarked names in a desperate attempt to cash in on that one Buzzfeed article from 15 years ago
>Rochester officially adopts "garbage plate" as a regional cuisine, because what the fuck else is going on in Rochester?
TLDR, the "garbage plate" is what you already make when microwaving random leftovers at 2am, and even Altoona pizza is more interesting.
