I haven't eaten there since 2011, do any of you have any entertaining stories to share?

For one of the larger chains to fail like this is a foreboding sign of things to come that literally everyone should be paying attention to. The restaurant business as it currently exists is about to collapse due to the rising cost of food prices rendering the entire business model unprofitable. Next up, Outback.

The last time I went was a couple years ago and only because I got a gift card for Christmas.
The biscuits were delicious but the rest of my food was cold and not very good.
The bar was also lacking, 2 shitty beers on tap, shitty mixed drinks, a few shitty wines.
They mostly appealed to lower class people who wanted an affordable "fancy" meal, but they couldn't keep the prices low enough to have that appeal anymore.
Pretty much every corporate restaurant chain deserves to fail, but Red Lobster especially deserved to fail.

I recently witnessed a 30-something /ck/ soiboi manchild try to scam them into letting him get one more order of endless shrimp to go. Waitress told him to btfo, so he asked for the manager. In the end, she gave him a to-go order for half off. He looked almost exactly like that anon who made threads against some sherriff on this site and got arrested in real life.

I was meaning to dine and ditch before they closed…because why not? It’s not like they can ban you from a restaurant that’s days away from closing, but I lost interest. Anyway, there’s a seafood buffet down the street, and I don’t know how they get away with it, but it’s only $45 for all you can eat crab legs, lobster, oysters, mussels, clams, octopus, and yeah different kinds of fish cooked in a variety of ways. But there’s NO WAY they’re making money off me when I go in there and eat 5 lobster tails, like 10 oysters and then crab legs until I couldn’t possibly eat a grain of rice, because that’s how full I am.

And I’m not fat either. I’m just always hungry…I don’t know where it goes.

I ate there growing up on rare occasions, food seemed ok and biscuits are good. Of the meals I've had there that I can remember, they were either salmon or shrimp, and never had lobster
Probably will go this weekend and load up on some shriggers before they're broke

The major chain family restaurant is going to die altogether within a generation. Outback, Olive Garden, Chili’s, Applebee’s… they’re all reheated cisco foodservice trash. Their one saving grace was they used to be cheap, as in feed a family of 4 for 30 bucks cheap. Now it’s simply not worth it. Pay a little more and get decent food, pay a little less and get a sack of mcburgers, or take the time to make dinner at home. There’s no reason to go exactly in the middle where it’s the worst of all worlds.

Businesses don’t just fail. As a past fan, and employee, of RL, my sense is that it has been failing over the years for the following reasons:
1) For 20+ years, RL failed to evolve, to address the changing behaviors, wants, needs of customers, and a dynamic and competitive marketplace.
2) Some 20+ years ago, leadership failed to make the right decisions. When a brand is strong, iconic, the effects of those decisions manifest slowly, but then hit the wall rapidly.
3) The script was written for an accelerated decline when RL was sold, its real estate assets sold to assure a short-term return for its buyers rather than investing those resources in a vision, a transformation that was long needed and overdue.
4) The more recent sale to an unsuspecting seafood company with little US restaurant experience, without the expertise or determination to rejuvenate the brand.
5) Recent, disastrous, horrible marketing decisions like continuous Endless Shrimp, and the “Welcome to Fun Dining” (Not differentiated, ownable, unique to, or delivered by RL) ad line pushed the brand over the line.
Yes, failure doesn’t just happen, it results from bad decision making, and for large, strong, iconic brands, that failure can occur over an extended period of time. But, they still ultimately hit the wall.

I've only been to Red Lobster 2 or 3 times as a kid and it left fond memories for me. The last time I went there was a very big black woman there and I just couldn't stop staring at her. The way her lips were like fat sausages and how she slurped and sucked the lobster meat into her gullet. The way her brightly patterned spandex bodysuit barely contained her bulging rolls. How she jounced and grunted at every guttural exertion. The glisten of the tiny beads of sweat covering her thick forehead skin.

Everyone's good memories of Red Lobster are from 20 years ago when family type restaurants still had a lot of business and could afford to serve relatively decent food for an affordable price. By now they serve the cheapest most preserved slop possible for outrageous prices because people stopped dining out as families years ago. That's why they're all going out of business.
