Something similar is common in my country, but we don't call it bento because we're not weebs.
If by "West," you mean the anglosphere, then that's because speaking English as your primary (let's be honest: sole) language renders you allergic to produce so while one compartment might have meat, the others would just be empty.

Probably at the end of the day comes down to zen Buddhist influence vs Christian influence

A belief in living a life of balance which includes taking breaks in the afternoon vs a living a life where depriving yourself of things is seen as a virtuous quality (but then secretly you binge on those things you deprive yourself of when nobody is looking)

>living a life where depriving yourself of things is seen as a virtuous quality (but then secretly you binge on those things you deprive yourself of when nobody is looking)

that's every religion on earth

>> No.20473855

>>20473831
It's not really a matter of how the religion is practiced though, it's the way the religion moves into secular society

Whether you are a Christian or not the legal system and social expectations you have when you live in a Western nation is based on Christianity
Weird sex stuff isn't frowned upon in the shinto-buddhism of Japan and they have brothels, and under age gravure idols
The religion informs the society

This will extend to things as simple as lunch time
Taking a long lunch break is slothful, it's sinful, it's shameful
Stuff your face with a day old sandwich out of the company vending machine and guzzle another 16oz of coffee then get back to work
In fact eat while you work, take a bite in between each paragraph you type

That's not christianity doing that. it's capitalism, regardless of religion. if your boss could deny you a break, he would.

A "bento box" large enough to satisfy a typical american would be impractically large, and these individuals are not carrying around what amounts to a full size army ruck sack just for their lunch. It's much more logistically feasible to not bring food anywhere and simply order bulk slops from a location near their place of work or recreation.

This shit is literally standard for schools, prisons, military, and various "cafeteria" style places.

Americans are shit at cooking for themselves, so anything from home will be corpo slop (Lunchables) or a brown bag with a basic sandwich and maybe a fruit or some shit. If you are lucky a thermos of soup or stew. Like this shit here: >>20473762

American lunchboxes used to have cartoon characters and other capeshit on them, therefore it gets the stigma that lunchbox = kids, despite adults bringing lunchboxes to work all the fucking time. Same with cartoons = kids. Kids watch them, therefore cartoons = kids, doesn't matter that R18 cartoons exist. Because most americans now don't eat multiple things for their lunch. They get one entree like a sandwich or salad with meat or meat and rice and veg.

Before and possibly only tradies who still get packed lunches made, they'd get breakfast packed with coffee. Their lunches would be an entree, maybe a soup, fruit, and water/juices. Chips/crackers and candy snacks are included.

I'm looking for a bento box, it cant be pinku (that's Japanese for pink) or any girl color. It has to be of 2 or more kotoba (that's Japanese for 2 compartments) and has be be chibi (small) sized. And has to be really kawaii (cute). Also It has to be about 10-20 bux. And you have to post pics of it first (i want to make shure it's kawaii). And it would be nice if it came with matching chopstick holder (WITH chopsticks).

OH! and it CANNOT have any cartoon pictures, or be made out of plastic. It has to be made of ceramic, or something like that. Also it would be nice if it was made in japan. and not in china or corea (Korea) or whatever. I have found a bento box similar to the one im describing in e-bay, but it was 1 kotoba, and i don't want my gohan (rice) to touch my other things (it can get wet and i would not like that, plus 2 compartments looks more kawaii).
