20450826 No.20450826 [Reply] [Original]

KFC announced that it is testing a new concept dubbed “KFC Original” at select locations across Florida. The menu is meant to be paired down to focus on the core KFC original recipe chicken and serve a better product. According to those that went, this means they cut the following menu items:
>Fill-Up Box
>Chicken Sandwich
>Spicy Chicken Sandwich
>Pot Pie
>Mac & Cheese
>Sweet Corn
>All Desserts
>Most combos
This means that all these items will soon likely be retired chain-wide after the test ends as they want a closer focus on the core item the way Chick Fil A and Raising Cane's does

They should have focused on providing high quality food at a high price point instead of providing shitty food at a high price point.
There was a time when I would've considered going to KFC instead of my local supermarket that sells fried chicken for a fraction of the price.

Sound good. I hope if successful it spurs a trend of quality > quantity in other chains. It's a known tell that the shorter the menu, the better the restaurant generally (unless you are Cheesecake Factory that doesn't obey the laws of Man or Nature). The potential is there, just look at their Japanese division, and yes this is a case where
>Thing :|
>Thing Japan :O
absolutely applies

One advantage that KFC will always have over home cooking (apart from not fooling around with quarts of excess used oil) is the Pressure Fryer. Attempting to recreate that process at home is essentially building a bomb:

If KFC wants to have a chance of surviving, they will need to start accepting EBT, also known as foo skramps (food stamps). Hungry gentlemen and ladies of Black color will be swarming the place.

>>20451640
SNAP (the current name for food stamps) is just one of many government entitlement programs that can be loaded on to an EBT card. SNAP cannot be used to purchase hot prepared food. If KFC wanted to get SNAP customers, they'd have to sell cold chicken. That's what supermarkets do so that SNAP customers can buy fried chicken from them while those paying for their own food can get the hot chicken.
When you see people buying hot (as in temperature, not spiciness) food with an EBT card, they're using some benefit other than SNAP. That most common is TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families) which unlike SNAP, is mostly unrestricted on what it can be used to purchase.
Some convenience stores allow customers to microwave their food after purchasing with SNAP. A frozen burrito can be bought with SNAP and then heated up in the store's microwave but if it is heated up before purchase, SNAP cannot be used to pay for it.
There's a small exception for elderly homeless people in a couple of states that does allow them to buy food at select restaurants since the they don't a kitchen. The RMP (Restaurant Meals Program) lets these select individuals to get food from a few vetted restaurants (mostly Subways) in cities like Detroit. The vast majority of SNAP recipients cannot use SNAP benefits at restaurants.

>> No.20451693

>>20451680
I wonder why President Obama didn't put a special rule in place so Black people of color could use SNAP to buy hot chicken from KFC, Church's, and Popeye's
I mean, you have to admit, it does seem like he was doing his best to keep the Black man and woman down
I understand now why there was nearly a decade of fiery but mostly peaceful protests; when you take away a person of color's fried chicken (or the last chicken wing at a cookout), they gonna wild out, gnomesaying?

Lets be real OP. Colonel Sanders said the food tasted like shit 60 years ago and I'm not old enough to remember but I'm confident it hasn't improved. Fillup boxes don't fill you up anymore, they're just going to change it to a $10 box like they did for tacobell. They lost the chicken sandwich wars because other places do chicken better. Who the fuck gets a frozen and reheated pot pie thats been in a warming tray for 4 hours? Mac&cheese across the board from popeyes to cfa to golden chick just sucks. over-boiled pasta, artificial cheese, and its either watery or so old its chewy. Sweet corn has never been a seller and who gets desserts at kfc? fat mexicans thats who.

Oddly enough McDs did the same thing a few times with their anus burgers, big n tasty, and chicken selects. They got tired of being the "its garbage but its cheap" restaurant and is the reason it kicked off renovating their restaurants to the soulless clinics they are today. KFC under Yum! branding is doing the same thing with taco bell and pizza hut, KFC is just last it seems. Who knows, maybe they'll use something other than powdered potatos, and bland chicken.

When I first started working, I worked at a take-n-bake pizza place that accepted EBT. They could do that because the food was not cooked therefore were classified as groceries. I later found out that some EBT users would resell the pizzas for cash but my boss didn't care because they still got their money. It was an interesting lesson to learn.

America is a lot bigger of a place so it has to stretch its benefits much further, and society accounts for this in a weird way. America generally pays you more than a european would make on any individual job, often by a HUGE factor, but you get much less safety net because you’re expected to access and pay for any services you use al a carte, besides health care, which your employer will either pay for or subsidize.

It’s therefore a great country to be employed, housed and have a job, and a REALLY rough place if you’re missing one or more of the above.

Really? I'm on SNAP right now. I filled out a form online, did a phone interview with a social worker, and now get almost three hundred bucks per month for food. The restrictions on what I can buy are minimal. As long as it has a "Nutrition Facts" label and isn't a warm prepared meal, I can use my EBT card to buy it. While some things are a bit weird, like the whole cold chicken versus warm chicken thing, it's basically free money. The only people I ever see complaining about it are those who want to be able to use it to buy fast food or things like alcohol or cigarettes. Pretty much every grocery store and even many convenience stores accept the card. Seems pretty straight forward to me.

No, the actual reason a lot of fast food franchise have higher qualities in a lot of foreign market is because it can't compete with the street foods for value, so it went for a more upscale niche. While in the United States, street food market is very hard to establish thanks to how spread out the cities and the immense reliance on cars, therefore the franchises basically occupy the street food market and thus are incentivized to make cheap or low quality shit.

I briefly worked at a KFC twenty years ago in my teens. I have not eaten there or any fast food joints since. You wouldn't eat at KFC for so many reasons, starting with low quality of chicken, frying oil that is "cleaned" with an open bucket machine at the same time we were mopping the floor so the crap on the floor and detergents ended up in the breading layer on your food, and the prepackaged spices/chemicals we added. America as a society historically values austerity rather than luxury. Additionally, unlike in Sweden where people who need assistance are either down on their luck or disabled or facing a family tragedy, the poor in America do it to themselves.

Not in the sense of:
>Why don't poor people just buy more money?

Rather, those on benefits here are often on it for generations. Intentionally not working, intentionally "injuring" themselves, things of that sort. It's a different ball game. As a result, a lot of politicians historically, and likewise the electorate, are uncomfortable with welfare of any sort. Our system is sort of a compromise between those who want welfare and those who don't.

Making it free money would not go over well in the U.S on a cultural level.
