Except for a handfull of restaurants, and probably most of the really higher end establishments, dining out is a waste. Food delivery even worse since your getting the same slop but at a premium and it's not even fresh.
I think my hangup is paying the middle man (tipping, delivery fees, etc) but also the food quality just isn't there most of the time.

Are you me? On the flipside, this caused me to get a lot more into cooking my own stuff, and figuring out how to cook the things I'd miss with copycat recipes. And then I started digging into dollar efficiency and started getting bulk meat at a restaurant supply place, and now I'm not even tempted to eat out.

Glad I'm not alone. My lady got me into cooking and baking and it's really just way more sustainable. I do miss the days of eating out occasionally, like once a week as a date thing, but even now we are deterred unless there is some place we really want to try. Bulk meat is the way to go

I'm the guy who only eat at home and cooks since i'm poor and always been, it's hard finding even an Europoor shop where to eat, it's getting tiring, I would like one day to take a break from cooking but the restaurants are too expensive, Fast food is expensive even here, even kebab shops now cost a fucking fortune, before covid and inflation I could get a whole ass menu (pizza/kebab, fries, drink) for 5€ now they ask 10€ or 9€. I do my own pizza at home and even kebab, yeah the kebab is better, pizza is not the same if it's not cooked inside a wood burning oven, even all you can eat is not worth it anymore. It's 3 months that I crave a restaurant any kind, i'm tired of cooking for myself and the family, I want a break, but money are not enough.

i used to order out at least once a week but i stopped once i couldnt find anyone who wasnt jewing me for $2 to order online. ive abandoned thousands of dollars in orders over the years because i refuse to be jewed by fees

since everything costs more you’d expect people to cook more home meals, be resourceful and knit clothes, start a garden. But nooooooo people are just lazy and are willing to pay whatever price for things they don’t need, keeping “inflation” up instead of waiting for prices to retvrn to normal

This is the worst part of all. I don't blame the companies, they are just utilizing their demand to make money. The consumer should be smarter. Some people need out food since their job demands it, not enough to shop/cook/etc. But that is a very small group realistically.

there are certain things I occasionally desire that are either impossible at home without expensive equipment or end up being such a hassle/expense that it doesn't really save me anything. I cannot make a truly good pizza at home with supermarket cheese and home oven temps. I cannot make a proper stirfry at home without a powerful gas range. buying a bucket of chicken vs buying the whole chicken, oil, cutting it up, breading it, and recycling the oil. That said I only do carryout.

this is a fun project and can yield some higher quality seasonal delicacies than you can get at a store but it's not going to end up being a significant portion of your annual diet without exhaustive planning and effort, canning.

>same goes for the $5 loaves of slices bread, somehow the expiration is always three days away and the loaf will mold unless you're eating 5 slices per day

only joints i support are locals anymore. based chinese place only just raised it’s prices and only by about a 1.50 on things while still giving huge portions. dinner combo and wontons is like 16 bucks and feeds for 2 meals if im hungry, 3 if i stretch or make my own rice

I can make a penne Bolognese for two, and have leftovers for the next day for literally 7 dollars, maybe a few dollars more if I want a little extra quality.
Meanwhile fast food people paying 10+ dollars for a burger and fries that feeds one person once.

cooking is not difficult or complicated at all, and buying groceries is always cheaper than delivery / eating out. It's like paying a maid instead of just cleaning up after yourself. Seems like half the people nowadays can't even handle basic shit, like being an eternal child.
