I always preferred the vegetarian dishes. Tomato and all the varieties of cheese and dairy was delicious enough and I felt like meat interfered with letting the food showcase that.

Fun fact, tomatoes are native to the Americas so Italy didn't have them until the 1500s, and they weren't widely used until around the 1800s, which is also when Italy become a country
