>bourbon barrel aged
if I really like this, does this mean I'd like bourbon too? I've been looking into american single malts to find a local (GODBLESSAMERICA) alternative to pic related that's not subjected to import tax but I'm open to any type of whiskey really. Recs are appreciated please and thankyou

No, bourbon is corn.

Retarded to consider that a factor anyway.

People with gluten allergy can't drink beer but they can drink spirits distilled from grains with gluten because they're distilled.

GMO or not, it won't matter by the time it has been malted, washed, distilled, and filtered.

This is my favorite local bourbon, I'm less than 10 mins from the distillery. I also enjoy Beacon Bourbon

It tastes pretty different. But yeah, try bourbon if you like whiskey. I don't see why you wouldn't just try the different whiskey varieties anyway.
Try Rye too, that's my favorite brown liquor.

I see. So perhaps I *should* be looking at american single malts. Who has a rec?

You can try, most of the decent ones are overpriced, unavailable in most areas, or both.

that is the most unamerican thing I have ever heard

>> No.20374381

>>20374375
It's not unamerican, it's a fact. Most American distillers are making bourbon, the few who do make whiskey that isn't dog shit know they have something fairly rare and mark it up accordingly, usually beyond what Scotch would cost you.

I tend to just buy scotch personally, but you do you.

>> No.20374550

>usually beyond what Scotch would cost you.
which offends me, because those bloody basterd scots are paying import duties to sell that magical yummy water over here, you'd think ASM distillers would take advantage of that to establish themselves as a worthy alternative to the foreign stuff. Damn shame, I say.

>> No.20374578

>>20374550
it's also just a problem with scale, no one in the US is doing it on a MASSIVE scale like they do with scotch.

because there are plenty of better bourbons that DO use GMO corn.

The main concern is intellectual property rights that can make it so certain companies hold the rights to the seeds that will sell the highest profit margin (for whatever reasons, but usually because they grow faster/larger, or are more resilient or some other factor).

If you're concerned about some chemical makeup genetic pseudo bullshit, you're just a moron.

I don't mind bourbon but I don't understand people who are "into" bourbon

>> No.20377922

>>20376290
It's an artisanal product, which is interesting in itself to some people, and the actual product itself can be enjoyable and unique enough to alsobe interesting. Despite 100% understanding it I wish it stayed in its enthusiast bubble.
