What's the correct meat to bread ratio in a sandwich?

>> No.20364402

Treat meat like a condiment. The focus of a sandwich should always be the bread.

1/3rd pound is the correct amount of meat for single sandwiches

Meat by itself should be .5~.75 to bread, in height, width, and length, though not necessarily weight, as meat weighs more than bread. In your picture, there should be more meat on the sandwich. Just as importantly, the meat should be spread to have an even consistent thickness throughout, so as to have the same amount every bite.
However, for processed meats and/or cut on a butcher's slicer, like salami, turkey, bologna, etc., you will want to stay at .5.
In addition, if you are adding toppings, the entire "filling" should not exceed 1 of the bread, while keeping a maximum ratio of 2:1 weight distribution for meat to toppings and a height ratio of 1:.75.
Sauce should be spread enough to cover the entire top side of the bun, thick enough to still see the condiment, but not enough that the bread stops absorbing it and it starts to sop over, falling onto the plate.

Basically bread should be the least as it can be to hold the sandwich together. Then when you eat, you pick off the bread where you can while keeping your fingers clean.

Wendys makes a pretty good bacon triple and I normally discard the bottom bun. So basically, if not crushed, about 10% of the sandwich should be bread.

>> No.20364944

I go by finger width. Up to 1 finger if the meat is just one of the ingredients to the whole sandwich, 2 fingers is the perfect amount of meat for a meat centric sandwich, and 3 fingers are for meat lovers and sandwiches where the meat is the VIP star of the show. 4 fingers and over and you might as well just eat the meat by itself, no need for bread.

There's a middle ground here for anyone that isn't an idiot. Bread, if it's of good enough quality, can contribute to the flavor and structure of a sandwich. Ideally, it should, if the place/person making it hasn't cheaped out on shit bread.

Very rarely. And that's way too much. In a perfect world an edible clear or opaque wrap would make the sandwich and not cost a fortune like glutinous rice sheets.

These things should be readily available in all groceries.

Stuff like pulled pork sandwiches should have a huge mound of meat while a regular lunch meat sandwich should have a nice balance, like 2 slices of meat and 1 one of cheese with maybe a pepperoni slice or some extra cheese of a different variety.
