We're a two-whisky household. For celebrating we drink Lagavulin 16, but for everyday we satisfy ourselves with Johnnie Walker Black. Not nearly as good, but still pretty good, and far more economical than drinking Lagavulin allatimes.

>(exacty as it should be)
I don't even know what chill filtering does to a whisky but I feel like the bottle patting itself on the back like this is a red flag

>> No.20359554

>>20359154
>what chill filtering does
It pisses off the whisky snobs. Chill filtering is done by lowering the temperature of the liquid to just below freezing; the water will start freezing around any nucleation sites (which include suspended particulates) making them larger; the semi-liquid/semi-frozen mixture is then run through a filter where the ice-coated particulates are separated. This has the benefit of clarifying the whisky by removing microscopic bits of charcoal from the whisky, it also has the secondary effect of increasing the proof of the whisky. But mostly, it's a cheaper way of filtering the whisky than investing in a submicron filter and high pressure pump.
