NTA, $33 seems a bit high, but you do expect to pay at least $25 for a decent one. In New England, even McDonald's sometimes sells a little lobster roll during summer, and even that one was easily over $10 for the sandwich as I recall (this was years ago, on a work temporary assignment). They're often sold in tourist areas so people are throwing money around anyway and DGAF about a few bucks for the novelty.

Yeah this happens here too. Lots of little shacks in coastal norcal selling a crab roll for like $20, a medium sized sandwich wrapped in paper that you pick up from a counter. I still get one from time to time because they’re pretty good hah
The first week of lockdowns local grocery stores were selling cooked crab for $5/ea, 3 for $10 because none of the restaurants wanted any. Made a few rolls myself that week.

I wouldn’t call coastal norcal prime taco truck territory. We have some, but socal and the bay area have more that are probably better. Really any city in the west/southwest. There are a lot of mexicans up here but no big cities so not a lot of room for them to thrive and compete. $2/taco was the norm from a truck when I was a teenager in a socal city ~10 years ago. I just checked my favorite spot and it’s now $5/taco. We do have some great mexican restaurants and taquerias, again probably the same as anywhere in the west/midwest. For me it’s carne adobada

If you’re wondering, norcal cuisine is seafood heavy with a large sprinkling of artisan specials (wood fired pizza, fresh pasta, small batch cheeses etc) and “hip” options because a lot of rich hippies from the Bay Area vacation here.
