Years ago when I was first learning about whisky I read one of those long-form dramatic expose pieces about tracking the child molesters on the bitcoin or something. At the time I was particularly fond of oban. And the main bad guy, they caught him, and they mentioned how he was just a regular guy and he liked sportsball and his favorite whisky was oban. Ever since all I can think of when I see oban is "child molester" and I get the ick from the idea of owning a bottle. It's a good drink, there's no reason I should be like this but whiskies are a diamond dozen and there's just no recovering from that when there's so much competition. Thank you for reading my blog.

You can use it almost like an anti-bitters. Any serious amount of it will just taste like you dumped liquor into rootbeer, but a few drops to a teaspoon of it, depending on what it's working with, can make strong, harsh, and bitter liquors and liqueurs play nicely, especially absinthe in cocktails that have no good reason to have an absinthe rinse.
Once you get past cloyingly sweet, rootbeer's largely vanilla, caramel, and wintergreen, sometimes with a bit of cherry bark ("DM") that can make it work alright in Last Word riffs with whiskeys/ies.

It's only around $25-30 more than the 10yr Bulleit, and more or less the same price as the Bulleit single malt or 12yr. Which are the more appropriate comparisons as the green label is a 15-year age-stated blend.

ratios and experience are mostly the reasons people don't into blending at home. also partly because theres no way to effectively replicate 'the perfect storm tier' of the fabled great blends from the whisky loch era with the stuff widely available in the market today. its more efficient to just put up the money to get a bottle from that time instead and those are going to be even better now than they were back then due to nearly 40 years of bottle aging at this point.

another aspect is that premium blends typically get rested in less effective barrels for a period (which for consumers is at best not convenient and virtually impossible at worst), so that they can marry.

>>20321927
there is no benefit in putting much effort into finding exceptional blends that might be floating around when the craft market pricing you'd be paying is on par with single malt vintages.

its really only a considerable option if you have the expendable funds and/or are bored with everything else.

I'd argue as an entry-level "good" blend, Johnnie Walker Green has great price/performance. 15 year age stated, some nice peated single malts in the blend, just overall good and consistent.

In the same price bracket for single malts you'll be looking at 12 years or younger in most cases, and they won't be anywhere near as consistent as JW Green is from bottle to bottle.

How's it taste? Ardbeg 10 is probably my favorite whisky.
I tried the glenallachie 12 recently and that was really good too. Completely different taste from Ardbeg, it was really sweet and rich with a sherry taste.
Unfortunately tonight I decided to try pic related. It's way too sweet and doesn't taste like juniper at all. I saw it in the store and bought it on a whim and I should've looked up a review first because fuck they're right.
