The only real differences between HFCS and table (beet) sugar is that HFCS contains water (thus making some beverages slightly more water by volume) and the glucose and fructose are bonded in the beet sugar, which is broken down very quickly by your stomach enzymes. In HFCS, the glucose and fructose are not bonded. That's it. That's the whole difference. They are, for their purposes, nearly identical in substance. One is produced from the sugars in corn starch and the other is produced from the sugars in beets or sugarcane. Yet you, and your compatriots, are under the impression that crystallized beet sugar is nectar of the gods, and corn syrup is akin to raw sewage.

Again, at the end of the day, coca cola is sugar, water, and CO2. It's nutritionally poor in every country. It is virtually identical in substance. I'm sorry but European coca cola is not some divine brew from Mount Olympus any more than American soda is.

>In the 40 years since the introduction of high-fructose corn syrup as a cost-effective sweetener in the American diet, rates of obesity in the U.S. have skyrocketed, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. In 1970, around 15 percent of the U.S. population met the definition for obesity; today, roughly one-third of the American adults are considered obese, the CDC reported. High-fructose corn syrup is found in a wide range of foods and beverages, including fruit juice, soda, cereal, bread, yogurt, ketchup and mayonnaise. I'm not sure what you're quoting but that's not the study you linked. The study you linked is a study on high fructose diets. This does not mean a diet high in "high fructose corn syrup" specifically. It means exactly as it is said, "high fructose" diet.

You do realize your sacred beet sugar is also half fructose yes? And you do realize that high fructose corn syrup is... about half fructose yes?

>> No.20288369

>>20288358
>The consumption of fructose has increased tremendously over the last five decades, which is to a large extent due to the development of high-fructose corn syrup (HFCS), a commercial sugar additive that contains high amounts of free fructose. HFCS is often added to processed food and beverages partly because it is a powerful sweetener but even more so because the production is cheap. Although fructose in combination with fiber, vitamins, and minerals, as present in fruits, is a healthy source of energy, isolated fructose, in processed food products has been associated with several health disorders such as insulin resistance and hypertension. Apart from its metabolic consequences, a growing body of literature suggests that free fructose can also affect neuronal systems. High-fructose intake may on the one hand affect central appetite regulation by altering specific components of the endocannabinoid system. On the other hand, it appears to impact on cognitive function by affecting phosphorylation levels of insulin receptor, synapsin 1, and synaptophysin. The present report reviews the recent evidence showing a negative effect of free fructose consumption on central appetite control, as well as cognitive function.

>confirm prior studies demonstrating that HFCS can induce metabolic dysregulation and add to accumulating data that this can arise in the absence of obesity. Reduced dopamine is associated with obesity (for review, [57]) and may contribute to compulsive eating [33,34,54,66]. We demonstrate that HFCS can impair dopamine function in the absence of weight gain or increased fat consumption. As reduced dopamine function has been implicated in compulsive behaviors [67,68] and reduced energy expenditure [57,69,70] and insulin dysregulation incurs increased obesity risk [71], changes in glucose regulation and dopamine function induced by HFCS may precede and contribute to obesity in the long-run.

See I'm curious because when sucrose and HFCS are administered in the same manner the sucrose caused a higher weight gain. But when the rats were provided with 24 hour access to HFCS and chow they gained more weight than the other groups. They did not test a 24 hour sucrose group.

Interesting results yes?

If you're interested on this, instead on doing anything to say "I win", then you'd have read:
>In Experiment 1 (short-term study, 8 wk), male rats with access to HFCS drank less total volume and ingested fewer calories in the form of HFCS (mean= 18.0 Kcal) than the animals with identical access to a sucrose solution (mean= 27.3 Kcal), but the HFCS rats, never the less, became overweight.

>We have previously shown that rats are able to adjust for the excess calories obtained when consuming 10% sucrose by taking in fewer calories of chow and thereby maintaining a normal body weight (Avena et al., 2008). Similarly, Jurgens found that mice with 73 days of access to a frucose solution showed increased adiposity, while mice given access to a 10% sucrose solution did not (Jurgens et al., 2005).

Yes. I'm interested in these results. In Experiment 1, the rats with 12 hour HFCS access gained more weight than the 12 hour sucrose. But the 12 hour sucrose gained more weight than the 24 hour HFCS. So what does this mean?

Experiment 2 is irrelevant for our purposes. Sucrose is not included and no shit adding HFCS to a diet will increase calorie consumption.

Experiment 3 had the reverse of Experiment 1. The 24 hour access to HFCS increased weight over 12 hours of sucrose. But 12 hour HFCS gained less weight than with sucrose. So what does this mean?

When you eat a piece of fruit, it's a bad piece of Monsanto fruit.
When you drink a glass of water, it's fluoride, rust, and Plan B contaminated water.
