I think its their way of speaking out against the waste of plastic so many studios/theaters have been getting away with by making nigh-unuseable popcorn containers that will be ultimately shelved , collect dust, lose color, and add to the waste of the world. So they took it a step farther.
Or they wanted fatties like myself to not eat during the movie (i try to finish the popcorn prior to the movie so I dont make noise)
