Do you, like me, hate eating at gatherings?

Everyone hates each other, but then we all sit down at a table and pretend that we don't. Barely-contained anger and resentment. Nobody making too much of an effort in the food they brought. The safest, blandest American dishes that everyone can "enjoy".

What's the point? We'd all be happier if we just stayed home and ordered pizza.

My mum can't roast lamb to save her life so pascha with my parents can be grueling. My dad can't roast turkey or make gravy, so same for Thanksgiving. And, as stated already, my brother's vegan so eating with him can be a challenge altogether, what with his "it's just like meat!/eggs!/milk!" nonsense. At least he has the good sense to buy and cook meat for family gatherings, despite his protests, and we do the same with his tofurky/hamfurky (or whatever the shit it's called) and LightLife stuff (for summertime cookouts).
The missus and I aren't there for the food, tho.
When we see her mum, we're definitely there for the food. That lady can cook but all she does is talk shit on me in Marathi.
