The problem is people who use caffeine as if it is a recreational drug. If you use it more like a supplement it's fine. I used to drink a ton of coffee back when I was in highschool and I had to get up at like 5:30am every day. I'd make some absurdly strong French press then load up a big ass thermos, and drink it until I was practically vibrating in my seat. I told myself it was just so I could stay awake, but it was really more to cope with the malaise of being a teenager forced to wake up retardedly early and sit in a dimly lit classroom doing algebra equations over and over. Now if I drink more than two small cups I get anxious.

There's a world of difference between having a mental health disorder and being diagnosed with a mental health disorder. Caffeine is a known sleep disruptor which can worsen any kind of mental health issue too. Especially since if you have no caffeine tolerance, even 50mg of it can give you a noticeable boost. But most energy drinks now seem to have 150mg or more. And people often don't just have one.

I think it's ignoring that most people are sleep deprived these days though. You can blame energy drinks and kids will be curious about these things, but the majority of people need caffeine to function because of our unnatural schedules. All this is doing is saying kids need to wait a few years before consuming tons of caffeine anyway but it doesn't address why people are doing that at all.
