Super cool espresso machine I saw this morning at a cafe in Gulfport FL. Apparently it was handmade by a guy in Venice, IT, and there are only two in the world. The barista pointed out the owner and said he would be excited to talk about it, but he was deep in a conversation and I figured it was best not to interrupt.
The macchiato was decent. I had a better one in Pompano Beach yesterday.

It was $5.50 or so with the milk foam added, by the way. You're paying more for the labor, rent, taxes, etc than the actual coffee.
Even buying expensive beans, it's almost always cheaper at home. I bought a bag of beans at the other cafe, 12oz for $16, and that'll average out to I think about $0.85 per double. Even the most expensive beans I've ever bought (Blue Bottle in Boston, not at all worth it) were $25/12oz, which averages to about $1.33 per double.
The only place I've seen it different was in Italy, where you can still get a single for 1€ in many places.

>typical darker roast aussy
iirc i probably said something like "this roast was darker than usual" or "these beans are darker than i expected" possibly referring to them as "medium dark"
my problem was making sound like australians are known for drinking dark roast or implying australians drink a lower quality than other parts of the world
which isn't true which is why i said "and 99% of the fucking planet drinks dogshit commodity dark roast crap, including you" (sorry for that last bit btw iirc the beans you have posted are usually pretty light) to say that everyone drinks dark roast coffee, and that saying "typical darker roast aussy" is meaningless because its something everyone does.

and for the record(put this in the dossier) the "x$/kg" is mostly a meme, i never buy a kilo. ever. unless it is green beans.

i should have some new beans roasted in the next few weeks

Coffee is ethiopian. There's a forest in ethiopia called gori gesha where they found real nice wild coffee growing in the 30s. So they exported that "strain" around for research and it spread from there. Panamanian gesha has mutated and is now genetically distinct from other related varietals.

Nah, just a mild persistent/autistic curiosity. Years back in college, way before I was drinking coffee, the seed was planted when I had to track the commodities market for a finance class and had the epiphany that coffee was traded like gold and oil. I figured I should look into that more at some point and here we are. Maybe it'll wrap back around into a roasting/pop up sidegig eventually. Mostly I just don't like not knowing what I'm buying so I end up looking into alot of shit.

New color-coordinated beenz and cuppa.

Tazzine's a thicc 5cl Cilio, in the vein of il Bel paese.
Beans, another "Mélange Audacieux".

>A blend that's as fiery as it is smooth, with a creamy finish and a hint of acidity. For this recipe, our master roaster has chosen two varieties of Red Bourbon, renowned for their roundness and light acidity:

>>>Red Bourbon from El Salvador, in Las Mananitas

>>>Red Bourbon from Guatemala, at Huehuetenango

>For this blend, our master blender wanted to focus on botanical varieties. What Merlot is to wine, red Bourbon is to coffee.

>Boldness n°3 Botanical Varieties highlighted different varieties from the same terroir, the same plantation. Likewise, audacity no. 4 highlights the same variety produced in different countries of origin.

>The red Bourbon from El Potala in El Salvador has a very fruity profile, with a lovely freshness and gourmet notes. The red Bourbon from Huehuetenango in Guatemala has a more gourmet profile, with notes of green apple on the finish.

>A blend of flavours with a brown roast to accentuate the incredible length on the palate.

>Chaud Devant is our latest blend in the Audacieux range and reminds us of good wine! This bold challenge brings flavour, aroma and complexity to the palate with every sip, thanks to its 100% Arabica Bourbon composition. Discover our Chaud Devant blend, its history and origin. >>The history of Chaud Devant

>A few years ago, our master roaster came up with a blend that had crossed his mind: the aim was to obtain a coffee with a unique mouthfeel, highlighted by roundness, lightness and a hint of acidity. To achieve his goal to perfection, he decided to blend two unique origins that combine perfectly to make a delicious espresso: Salvador and Guatemala. To go even further in the imagination of a complex and aromatic coffee, we choose a 100% Arabica bourbon blend...

>>Chaud Devant, unique in the mouth

>What Merlot is to wine, red bourbon is to coffee, isn't it? El Salvador's red bourbon, grown in Las Mananitas, and Guatemala's red bourbon, grown in Huehuetenango, combine perfectly for a unique blend, with the liqueur of a good traditional wine. The same variety, different terroirs: the challenge lay in a complex roasting process that highlights the unique bourbon.

>>The origins

>While the 100% Arabica Bourbon coffee from El Salvador, from the Finca El Potala, has a very fruity profile, a lovely freshness and gourmet notes, the coffee from Guatemala, from the Huehuetenango region in the heart of the Mujeres farm, stands out for its gourmet flavour with lovely notes of green apple on the finish. These unique and very different aromas combine perfectly to create a unique cup.

>Don't wait any longer to discover our unique Chaud Devant blend, the latest edition of our Complex and Specialty Audacious Blends!

Another scrumptious blend. Shot ratio was 1:1.6, found some caramel and honey notes balanced by moderate acidity. Mouthfeel is thicc and syrupy with a medium/medium plus, intrabuccal lasting tang.
Would unquestionably buy again.

Whatever it costs, within reason. I dont really want to buy another one ever again. A couple thousand, probably $3000 I guess would be my limit. I most do medium to dark roast and love me milk drinks.

That puts you squarely in the bracket of several very good dual boiler machines. Have a look at the Rocket Appartamento, Lelit Bianca, Profitec Pro 300, the Acaso the other anon mentioned, ECM Synchronika.

If one of them stands out to you as much better looking than the rest - they're all very similar form factors - or if one is a brand that has a local service agent or you can find a screaming deal on than the others, then they're similar enough for that to be a good reason to go that way.

If they don't appeal aesthetically, a Rancilio Silvia Pro is worth a look, as is a Breville Dual Boiler - the Breville is a little less "Italian plumbing" than the rest in terms of servicing but will still last a decent amount of time though the rest from the first list are closer to heirloom level.

Just tried graduating past instant coffee by buying a french press off amazon. Made my first coffee with it from a guide, and it came out really bitter and a bit acidic. I used 25g for 300ml, used water that has been boiled then cooled for a little bit, stirred it quite a bit, then left it to steep for 5 minutes. Any metric except heat was on the low end on extraction strength. Any advice? I'm planning on using a bit cooler water next time.

Definitely not enough pours, even with a steep and release brewer. For a 1:12 ratio I'd divide it into 3 – 6 pours. Also you should agitate with an actual implement and not just with the stream, especially when immersion brewing. Coffee Chronicler seems to prefer his coffee on the watery side and seems to brew with an emphasis on clarity. It seems you want more body than clarity. I'll suggest trying a pour over recipe that emphasizes body more than clarity.

You kids are dumb with your pretentious coffee beans. Heres some real coffee advice / tips for you, and along with how I made this cup in the pic.

Placing half a cup of protein powder in the mug to begin with, I pour the hot coffee into the mug 3/5ths of the way. After adding a drop or 2 of vodka, I get out my homemade coffee creamer in a jar; shaking it before opening it and pouring it in.

To make homemade coffee creamer, buy a case of kirkland evaporated milk cans at costco for 10-12 dollars, they are in cases of like 12-16. Pour the entire can into a pot, and add half a cup of brown sugar (or however much you want), on medium heat. Stir occassionally, and after 3-4 minutes when it begins to steam and the sugar has evaporated, pour it into a clean old spaghetti jar. Fill the rest of the jar almost to the top (not all the way) with any milk you have around you, and add a teaspoon of any kind of extract if you want to do so, or cinnamon if you want that. Boom. You have homemade coffee creamer. Shelf life 1 week in the fridge, and you put it in the spaghetti jar because you need to shake it with your hands before opening it; This manually froth's the coffee creamer, which is required since it doesn't use chemicals to get the same effect.

ANYWAYS, back to the coffee. After pouring the homemade coffee creamer in to almost the top, take your electric milk frother (you can it buy on amazon for like 5-7 dollars, required for this), and turn it on and froth the coffee. If you want to be a fancy shit like me you can add some torani sauce on top at the end.

Boom. A whole meal in a cup of coffee. I'm a subcontractor and this is what you need in life to survive.

I am rocking some Ethiopian Guji microlot light-to-medium roast this morning. It took me a while to dial it in on my grinder, and it seems to benefit from shorter-duration pulls (sub-30s for 35g from 19g of beans).

I could admire the red-brown of the grounds all day long. It's an un-washed process, apparently. Roastery 46 in Dartmouth NS

I'm confident enough in that woman's skills and equipment to make a much better pourover cup that i will ever dream of brewing. She won the World Brewers Cup, amongst other comps btw. I wanted to try a top of the line pourover to see if it's something i'd like.
>divide it into 3 – 6 pours. Also you should agitate with an actual implement
Like i said pourover is not popular around here, people tend to prefer to grind a bit coarser than their espresso, pull a 30s shot and be done with it.
Playing with the hario switch once a month is to keep things fun and spicy but it's not my cup of coffee, even when Emi Fukahori brews it.
I enjoy a much higher tds in a smaller cup, picrel is the double red bourbon blend as a ristretto, tasted better than as espresso.

not true at all. people come here all the time and ask generic questions for things "what espresso machine should i buy" they have more info, they know what their use case is, they know kinda what they already like, they know what their price range is but they usually dont include that info because they are dumb and i guess assume everyone online has esp and can read their mind.

a $500 electric grinder is actually the equivalent of a $200 grinder but with an electric motor in it.
and when single dosing its really not that much work to grind 7/14/20 grams of beans a couple times a day
so why spend $500 and get $200 when you can spend $500 and actually get $500.
also they are usually more portable and reliable. power goes out and that electric grinder is totally useless.
