Yeah like 15% more calories who gives a fuck. Just use less cooking fat to compensate.
>It's bigger
Who cares
>It's what I'm used to and I know nothing about meat

I buy whole chickens. Every cut has its charm, you just suck at cooking if you say breasts are bad

I’m not sure about that, it was $6.50 for my last whole chicken at walmart and it was considerably bigger than the typical rotisserie bird and it fed me for days. if you have a family it makes sense to buy the packs of specific cuts but I don’t think there’s a big difference in cost effectiveness with just one person

Most chickens don't make it through the packing process intact to be sold as whole chickens, so they are always sold at a premium
The cheapest chicken is whole leg quarters, they have enough bone to be sold entirely, and the least amount of processing to package

Weirdly I’ve found drumsticks to be the cheapest these days, there may be local differences in demand. But I stand by buying whole chickens, the price difference we’re talking about is a couple dollars at most when cooking for one, and I like the variety of cuts when I eat it throughout a week

>> No.20128755

Thighs are definitely the cheapest when factoring in bone to meat ratio.
It's also almost impossible to find chicken breasts that aren't woody.

Any of them. Have you ever butchered a chicken?

I simply don't like the taste/texture of chicken fat all that much. Thighs taste bad to me, chicken breast are lean enough to taste fine.

I know the benefits of chicken thighs. But at the same time, the texture and mild flavor of chicken breast is good in many dishes. I dont always want super strong chicken flavor and fattiness.

Totally agree OP, boneless Chicken thighs are the be-all and end all of chicken cooking.
Whether it be cooked in an air fryer after having been marinated and coated with breadcrumbs.
Or pan-fried with anything on them, you have so much more flavour from a chicken thigh, than what you will ever get from any other cut of chicken.
Forget chicken breasts, per pound, the thigh is where it is at.
Thanks for bringing this up, this is where all anons here should start cooking, unless you're retarded, you can't screw this up.
As long as the chicken is thoroughly cooked, all the way through, you can't go wrong.
Get yourself a decent temperature probe and put that into the thickest part of the meat, if it reads 165 F (or 75C) you have cooked that adequately.

I'll give my reasoning. The calories to protein ratio of breast works out better if you want to have other flavor profiles on a tight caloric budget.
I.e. thigh quesadilla does taste better but does have less food for the same amount of calories.

>> No.20129070

I never understood it personally but I was reading some posts about weight lifters and I suddenly had a revelation
For normal people eating normal food, it doesn't make sense but for the guys eating half a pound of meat each meal the exact micros/macros of their food makes a world of difference

Thighs are really really greasy, I'll get sick if I eat them every day unless I cook them into other things like rice or pasta or cabbage. But yeah, bone-in-thigh chicken is a cooking staple and it's one of the first things you should learn to cook. Boneless thighs without skin are a huge meme thoughever, I have no idea why anyone would ever buy that.

Boneless thigh is so much better for cutlet that it makes breast completely irrelevant.
The correct answer is that whole, bone-in breast makes good chicken pho.

I've been eating thighs for years but sometimes I like to panfry a breast, just salt and pepper and a little bit of herbs. I like the slight dryness and the toughness. Usually eat it with some fries or on a sandwich.

If taste were the same, I'd prefer thighs because they're so much cheaper. I can get regularly thighs for under $1/lb. Good luck getting breasts that cheap. When you take taste into account, thighs are the clear winner. Breasts have their uses so I do buy them sometimes and use the ones I get from whole chickens.
